I get instantly disconnected when touching water on my mount, no matter if I’m steady flying or skyriding. It happens both when touching the water and trying to exit water while on a flying mount.
It wouldn’t be nearly as bad if trying to reconnect didn’t give me the error of “unable to reconnect” 50% of the time and blank out the username and password fields.

I have been having a similar issue. At first seemed like a random occurrence when the Midnight pre-patch was released but today, I figured out how to recreate the issue consistently.
I’m in the zone Khaz Algar, Isle of Dorn using the steady flight style. Fly over the water and stop, then press the X key to go down into the water. After entering the water, the game freezes and then get the message disconnected from the server. So far this flight pattern has been consistent in causing the disconnect. All addons are disabled and I restarted my computer and ran WOW with no other programs running to interfere.
So far, I have been able to reconnect and continue where I got disconnected, on my mount, already in the water.
OK, I’m not use to doing this post thing and didn’t realize the character selected for me witch shows I was on WOW Classic. Replying to my own post letting you all know I was on WOW Retail for this issue.
Still an issue and still very annoying.
Having this issue with my haranir. When I fly into water, or in water trying to fly out, disconnected from the game. Friend who is also playing a haranir druid is having the same issue as of last night. So this is still a thing.
Additional info: Had this issue near Theramore docks as well as in Vash’jir or however it’s spelled, when I went above the waves. So location seems to be irrelevant.
Edit: seems particularly reproduceable if you dip into/out of the water. If you ‘bob’ it’s a definite disconnect. If you definitively leave /enter the water (for example, druid travel form in water and zip out onto the land) you’ll be fine. Mostly.
Im able to recreate this disconnect every single time without fail. Its pretty rough when you land for mining or herb gathering and get disconnected >.<
This is also happening when landing in the guard aoes in that one Prey quest.
I have this one, too, on all my toons. Only in the new Midnight zones, AFAICT.
I had it even outside the Midnight zones. Had it multiple times in Pandaria for expample.
