Good to know. I was only able to craft a 210 so not sure if I’ll do the switch out this week or play around with it and make the switch next week.
You only Nova if you’re moving and can’t cast Frostbolt. It’s not worth wasting the global on Nova unless you’re moving.
That’s exactly why it’s more valuable with fevered… more crits are required for uptime on the buff.
With crit gear on fevered you get:
- Contribution to the buff
- Damage from the buff
With crit gear on dc you get:
- Damage from the buff
Can you justify / elaborate ?
I agree. Crafted mine and played it in keys yesterday. Combustion is “fine”, in some ways casting the frostbolt actually helps. Gives the tank that extra second to get more threat, which helps everyone. It also slows the mob we’re combusting (if it can be slowed) which helps if we rip aggro.
But activating it on non-combustion feels terrible. We can just hit AI as we’re running to the pack, so the arcane part is simple. But I prefer to hold frost nova for emergencies. Casting frostbolt on top of our hardcasting flamestrike feels gross. Hardcasting flamestrike is borderline acceptable, but I think this pushes it over the edge into truly clunky.
As to the OP’s question, crit is the least valued stat for my mage with this legendary, in all situations, even though i’ve stacked haste/vers. It’s not useless, but it looks like it’ll be sitting at the bottom for at least this patch.
Why never sim stat weights?
It’s a bad idea when you’re weighing up upgrades, as you’ll just bounce back and forth constantly. Top gear should be used to compare gear.
But once you’re wearing your highest dps setup, why would you not want to sim your stat weights?
Apparently they’ll always change. The tryhards on the mage discord are always against it and they’re better than me lol.
They will change as your gear setup changes of course. But that’s different than never knowing your stat weights at all.
What they’re trying to prevent on the discord is all the idiots who do a stat weight sim which tells them haste is amazing, and Pawn then tells them a certain haste ring in their bag is an upgrade. So they equip that and then do another stat weight sim and it tells them versatility is far more valued now. So they change back to the vers ring they had on in the first place…repeat to infinity.
Questions then ensue on the discord, being asked by people who lack the IQ to understand the answers (if they can’t figure that out for themself) and everyone gets frustrated.
Either way. I don’t see how you can go wrong with just a top gear sim.
You can’t go wrong with it. But if you want to not be blind and know exactly how good certain stats are for your character, you need to be doing both.
Why cast AI for the arcane part of the trigger?
Fire mage damage is pretty minimal outside combustion anyways. My guess is the best way to activate the arcane portion of the trigger is with Rune of Power (either autocast with Combustion or manually cast outside of Combustion).
That way you do not need to worry about the arcane trigger at all. Instead the only change to your rotation is manually casting Frostbolt or Frost Nova when you want it to trigger.
True, I was doing it when I didn’t have Rune. I’m still new to fire this patch, he’s only 2 weeks at 60 and about 1100 IO.
I’ll need to tweak my rotation to make sure i’m using rune as close to 30 seconds after combust as possible.
The other thing that i’ve already encountered, is proccing it when you don’t want to, and it then not being available for combust.
This can happen if you AI someone after they’ve run back, and then you need to frost nova to save the tank or someone. I’ve had it happen a couple times already. I guess people are just going to have to wait for buffs sometimes.
I don’t think you’ll have it for combustion the next time if you hold it for rop. It has a 30 second cd.
On AOE that will work fine.
I’m not a raider, it’s too boring. But i’d imagine you could on single target too, assuming it makes it worth holding rune instead of using on CD, which is a big assumption.
Just saw in another thread, yet another issue with Disciplinary Command.
Apparently the Void Elf racial Entropic Embrace deals frost damage, and triggers the frost portion of Disciplinary Command.
The racial is a random proc which void elves have no control over. A velf fire mage could cast Rune of Power between Combustions, have the racial proc trigger and then the next fire spell activates Disciplinary Command … which could then be on cooldown during the next Combustion.
I think this means that Disciplinary Command is unusable for Void Elf Fire mages. Velves should stick with the previous patch’s lego.
It also means that if there were any bleeding edge progression Void Elf fire mages, they should all race-change to something else.
Fortunately this is not a problem since, like all bleeding edge progression players, bleeding edge fire mages only play Horde. (apparently just like all the Blizzard developers).
There’s a lot of weird stuff with it. PVP badge is technically an arcane ability, not that it would matter in a standard rotation. I do sort of hope they fix that stuff up. That can’t be intentional or at least you’d hope not.
Easy fix for that: make Void elves High elves, change the racial and give us all the Blood elf customizations.
This legendary is all kinds of gross.
Yeah, I don’t care when one stat weight is 1.4 and another is 1.3. But I do want to know if a weight goes from 1.4 to 0.7 or something due to a legendary swap, and also whether the general advice to craft FI as Haste/Crit applied to DC (it appears it doesn’t, Haste/Verse is prob best since Mastery/Verse seem fairly close and Verse provides damage mitigation).
I’m also still trying to figure out whether the Haste breakpoints I get in sims is something I should care about. Below roughly 19% Haste, Haste is by far the top secondary in terms of weight, but then gets significantly devalued when I go above 20% or so. My sense is that generally more Haste is better because a sim breakpoint isn’t the same as an actual breakpoint since players don’t execute with 100% precision and thus need more Haste than a sim would indicate to maximize Pyros/Flamestrikes during Combust.
Either way, I couldn’t do a top gear sim because I didn’t have the legendary yet, and also needed a belt to replace my FI as I had terrible luck with belts all tier (to the extent I had to craft FI on it and never swapped to helm). I was doing gear comparison sims but they’re tedious and hard to do when you have 2-3 viable pieces in many slots. Thankfully got a belt from M Hungering during our reclear and was able to swap to DC.
I can say without shame that I will not get my 7 pyroblasts in a combustion without like 24-25% haste. Assuming my sim is within 20-30 dps, I’m taking the haste lol.
