Mage dont harness fire and ice element by the way. Shaman does.
Mage element are arcane materialized into ice or fire.

Then just create the 4 talents I listed; keep your current Ele spec (these talents do not take anything away from your current spec) and let me play my Lightning only ele.
Why does the WoW playerbase feel so strongly about telling me I’m wrong to want a Lightning mage when it takes literally nothing away from them? Jesus christ you people are so controlling

And now you’re the victim because people disagree with you and aren’t rushing to give you what you want. Shocking. (Hey- now you’re a lightning mage!)
Because it doesn’t fit the lore of the game. This is still an RPG after all, it and has a specific story and background. Only shamans can harness lightning, but they don’t use lightning exclusively.
Dev time is a finite resource. Putting the effort into designing a 4th spec for shamans that goes against all previous lore does take away from them, and makes no sense when the shaman class already uses lightning in both of its DPS specs.
There is nothing wrong with you wanting to play a lightning mage, but you have to accept that WoW does not have one.

I can read just fine, but you seem to be struggling with it as your concern has been answered by multiple people- shamans use all of the elements.
There is a subspec for both elemental and enhancement that leans fire and there is a subspec for both elemental and enhancement that leans lightning, but neither dps spec uses exclusively lightning.
I understand you want that, but it doesn’t fit the lore of the class or the game.

Then when I make Lightning Mage 4th spec post, I expect to see no shaman complaining about it since it doesn’t fit into your lore of ele shamans to use only lightning spells, and will use this thread as an argument for why Shamans have no right to complain.
Lastly:
This is difficult to believe when they just released Plunderstorm (something that could be its own independent BR game) and MoP Remix in S4.
If they have time for those, they have time to create 4 talents for Ele shaman (or lightning mage now I guess)

Did you even read the description of the spell you quoted? It clearly says arcane damage.
If a name is all that matters then you should be excited to use spells like Frost Shock, Earth Shock, and Flame Shock.

No, the visuals are what matters.
You can say a spell does Fire damage as a frost spell for all I care, as long as the frost spell fires a frost-looking thing.
If mage gets a chain lightning called “Arcane Thunder”, I don’t care that it does arcane damage so long as it looks like a chain lightning.

Don’t worry Brainard, I like your suggestions, especially your Arcane suggestions to Sunfury and Spellslinger.
I think it’s good to see suggestions double downing on Aesthetics and Theme.
I know even Hunters are upset Dark Ranger didn’t turn all their abilities into shadowesque spells and upset as they want to look and feel like one.

I also realize I shouldn’t have been so aggressive with my request for “lightning mage/ele” in this thread; maybe it’s just not meant to be. (Been having a rough week at work, but I guess that’s no excuse to be mean on the forums)
I guess those are just my thoughts regarding lightning mage type of stuff. Ele mains should probably have more say than me since I don’t play a lot of Ele (although I would like to but I would only play it if it was lightning only).
Thanks for reading my other posts though! I appreciate that (especially the Sunfury/Spellslinger one; that one took a while to write up)

I think if there was ever going to be a chance for shaman to have a pure lightning spec, stormbringer hero spec would be it. And it’s not happening so I think you’re just SoL.
I would be down to play a pure lightning shaman. The only spells I think would really need to be transformed into new spells would be lava burst and flame Shock. I am okay with earth shock and even earthquake as it is very iconic.
If we’re just a lightning mage - then give us their defensive toolkit (they already have our lust, etc)…and build us like that. I’d be ok with that.
Hey, completely understandable, Work usually gets the better of us time to time.
Personally I like your idea of Ascendance becoming Lightning Themed, just like how we can switch between Fire and Storm Elementals, I like the idea of making Ascendance work with both current builds in their own way.
Now if they could seriously brings its cool down to 2 minutes

Honestly, super easy way to fix lightning theme with minimal work.
Tempest strike relaces lava burst as a plasma blast and flame shock is reskinned as static electricity …
Boom ele is now a lightning mage with the same easy mechanics.

If they add back the glyphs system to change the appeareance of the spells, i will be fine even with the degen lava burst gameplay if they become lightning burst or whatever.
i wish Shamans used more than one/two elements…
Storm means lightning and wind.
yet I don’t see any wind spells EVER.
Where are the tornados, wheres the heavy gust.
Why don’t shaman have strong wind spells to cast… we only have wind shear <.<.
At least we are adding lighting back… since before its al llavaburst…

Shamans are pretty much the SORCERERS of wow yet they kinda play like a mage… locked in one spell tree.

Lightning Bolt is the normal spell that’s cast by Air Elementals. It’s pretty safe to assume Blizzard considers lightning to be in the domain of air.
