I just joined a Darkmoon Faire raid so I could obtain the Sayge’s Dark Fortune buff which is required to be invite to raid Naxxramas.
Some loathsome person kited a civilian npc from Bloodhoof Village to Darkmoon Faire as we were obtaining the buff and caused us to get a dishonourable kill, causing many of us to lose pvp rank.
Within the last year or two, the pvp rank system was overhauled, yet this aspect of it was untouched. Why? Why should I be so fearful of fighting near a settlement of the opposing faction just in case I accidentally destroy my ability to purchase powerful gear, mounts and more, via some collateral damage from combat? It is INCREDIBLY easy to accidentally kill a low level npc in pvp combat.
What happened to me today was much more sinister in the case of intentional player griefing, but it highlights a glaring flaw in the game design that must be improved for the longevity of the game.
The pvp ranking changes from a year ago have made it so there are now very few battlegrounds occurring, and the lack of a faction balance control mechanism makes the queue times for one faction prohibitive, thus making it potentially actually impossible to grind back that amount of honour.
Please, devs, please see reason here. Please help us keep our VERY hard earned ranks!!

No. Because people will grief the living **** out of things by permakilling Flight Masters etc. Nice try, Griefer!

Just disable NPC killing.
Honestly it’s just an annoyance. Always has been.

Why were you in a raid group?

You have known about DHKs since 2004. So you’ve had 22 years of gameplay on a solved game to not be stupid and in the process of being stupid get a DHK.
This is also regardless of any kind of grouping available.
You can perma-kill Flight Masters now, they’re not Civilians.
Additionally, players who are intent on griefing here are not dissuaded by the DHK system anyway. I’ve already achieved R14 and have purchased all my gear. I need neither rank nor honour. If I so desired I could go and grief to my heart’s content, there is nothing stopping me. It turns out I just can’t be bothered.
Also…
Easy simple solution. There are other solutions as well that have been proposed over the years, such as faster respawns. I always liked the bounty one myself, where many DHKs puts out a hit on your character and strong NPCs will “hunt you down” no matter where you are in the world, spawning on you when they “find” you. Even if you’re in a raid.
Let’s not victim blame here. Unless you play this game entirely solo, every single person is susceptible to this. There’s just no reason to have a DHK so penalizing in this game. If anything it has a negative impact on World PvP and really should be changed.

dont be in a random raid for no reason where someone might kill a civilian and give you a DK
hope that helps

More than one thing can be true at the same time.
A darkmoon buff being “required” is just plain silly. Joining a raid to get the buff when dishonorable kills exist isn’t very smart. DKs existing instead of the npc being unkillable was the wrong solution too.

On Whitemane, if you turn up to Naxx as a tank or melee dps (most of the raid) in any respectable raid group that reliably clears in under 120 minutes without Dmf buff during Dmf weeks, you’re getting turned away.

Going from Commander to Corporal in one NPC kill was a huge hit.
This is the nerfed version.
1.13 reduced your rank bar by 20% gross, then in 1.15 they nerfed it to 5%, there is no decay.
Not saying DK’s should exist, because they are stupidly set up, but here we are.
Remove dishonorable kills by making civilians unkillable.

I’m not sure why they never thought of the obvious solution back in the day.
how in the world do you get an DHK without killing the npc…..and why did you target and kill it, or am i missing something here?
if they would do it, that’d be great
