I’m cataloguing every ranking member of the Horde army, for fun. But I’m getting stuck on where to place Overlord and High Overlord
My assumption has always been High Overlord > Overlord > High Warlord > Warlord. But there’s nothing as far as I can tell that explicitly says this.
I think you are correct… I did a quick search look at different games, fantasy settings or stories and found out that it depends on the setting its their meaning or authority given to them deepening on the role they play…
However Overlord seems to be the one in charge of places, whole sections and all its components, were Warlords seem to just focus specifically on War Campaigns and its Armies exclusively, adding the “High” to them would just put them a rank above, like how Deathlord or High Lord work in Order Halls. So I would assume that order you mention is the way to go…IMO.
I feel like it’s not a linear distinction and Overlords manage more of the economic/logistical/political side of things than Warlords, who are more just military generals.

Overlords are more of the naughty tentacle department.
Overlords outrank warlords. But as to what warlords do that separates them from overlords, I have no idea.
Just that High Overlord Saurfang was He who watches they, the first of retribution, that which does quell the recalcitrant.
Saurfang was so rad in vanilla.

is that overlord is a ruler of other rulers while warlord is a high military officer in a warlike nation.
Off the top of my head I’d imagine that warlords are specifically in charge of differing war fronts or and army in general while an overlord is in charge of the military in its entirety
