Did they say there was some new feature for housing to submit your house and showcase it, cause it also looked like it doubles as a housing browser to finally look up and visit people’s houses. I think that is the biggest secret W for retail if so.
That was how I took it, that you could list your home for others to visit and possibly rate. I’m not surprised, that’s how housing works in EQII. Well, the leaderboards part of it, anyway. You’re not forced to put your house up on the leaderboards lol.
I hope they don’t implement rating for houses. I’m not a fan of this rating rubbish. They should just let us showcase our houses.
I will not go for the rating bit.
They mentioned this feature months ago as being something they are working on. It’s nice to hear that it’s getting close to being ready.
This will make it so much easier to share houses with our friends on the forum as well as make it easier to ask others for advice and help solve problems. For most of us who don’t have the rank to post pictures on the forums, it can be frustrating to try to explain in words something that a single picture could convey.
I mean, you can just post a link to imgur using this method if you needed to.
I’m just excited that a rudimentary housing visitation browser is finally being added even if it’s not the intended/main use of it.
In order to do that, you have to have an imgur account. I’ve been trying to minimize the number of sites that I have to have accounts for as I already have too many various accounts to keep track of. I have posted with my Pinterest account but it’s not an ideal format for sharing pics. I have thought about setting up an imgur account but with the new showcase feature coming, I think I will just wait for that for sharing on the forums and use Discord to share screenshots.
you don’t need an imgur account to upload to imgur. You can if you WANT I suppose, but you don’t need one. That’s the beauty of it.
I think they mentioned possible theme based showcases for rewards and prized. Might be fun to look at and hopefully some people enjoy participating.
Will have to rewatch the Housing Panel to see if they go over it in more detail.
I think I remember them saying people can “heart” it and if you get enough hearts you can earn some unique decor?
Not sure how I feel about that. ![]()
There is no kind of decor that can cause me to engage in some kind of popularity contest. That is how I feel about it.
It depends on how it’s implemented. In EQII, the “top-rated” are at the top of the leaderboards, but you can view any home that’s been put on there, it just might take a little more searching. Knowing the homeowner’s name helps though as there is a search option. Don’t get me wrong, I’m on the fence about it myself. On the one hand, you can get some pretty amazing ideas from visiting those homes (I will never cease to be amazed at the creativity of some players lol) but on the other, if you just want to visit your friend’s home and they haven’t been upvoted, then you might have to scroll through many pages to find their house (unless a search-by-character-name option is implemented).
so like LFR but it’s open houses? Would be fun.
LFH? LOL!
Actually it will likely just be another tab on the Housing Dashboard. Organizing “Open House Raids” would be fun though!
I’m absolutely against rating houses. It’s like if you’d rate art in an art gallery. Also, I think with social media we have already too much in our lives where we’re been rated. I hope we can share our houses without participating in a rating system. Also, I don’t wanna see the ratings on other peoples houses. If there isn’t an option to completely turn off rating, I’ll not use it. The only thing I want is to visit other peoples houses.
I actually would like being able to give a “like” to a house. When I’m on and have the time to do a tour of houses, most of the owners are asleep/away so I can’t talk to them directly and the ingame mail system has its limits.
But I would prefer a system that can tell me someone gave a like, but is only visible to me (and Blizzard since it’s their system). No FOMO, no peer-pressure… just a quick “someone liked that”. I don’t even have to know who sent that like, ‘though it would be nice.
Also, just a like. No numbers game, no “I hate that” options. Just a small
.
The downside to a housing walkthrough without the owner is if they use the hearthlight armillary and aren’t online to set the ambience. They would need to allow the decor to apply the lighting effect and allow it to persist through logout and leaving the house.
It was presented as a snapshot. People can visit a moment of time for your house. Maybe it will take the armillary into account in this instance.
In EQII, I don’t think that the rating is obvious unless you visit via the Housing Leaderboards. If you just go visit someone’s home, you see their home. I cannot be certain, as I have only used the Leaderboards to go to specific homes for specific reasons (it’s our Guild Hall while we wait for Guild Halls to arrive/24 hour portal Druids & Wizards) so the rating option is there when you go to leave again. (The reason to visit that way for Guild Halls & portals is that you can travel there directly VIA the leaderboard listing. This is the safest way for all members of the community because, especially on the TLE/Origins servers, there are NO neutral cities at launch so if your GH is in Freeport and you are Qeynos aligned, you ain’t gettin’ there via the front door!) The only other reason I go to other players’ homes is to save money at the broker lol and there is no housing rating box when I go to leave those homes.
This would be fine as well, and how it works in Fallout 76. Also, in both EQII and FO76, you have to actually LIST your home on the “Best Build” or “Leaderboard” lists, it’s not automatic. But if you could just give a like or leave a heart or something if you like someone’s home, that would be cool.
