Did Blizz give up on Druid

I work in a great company and have for 8 years. I now only have two positions above me (both of which have been filled by the same people for 30+ years) so my chance for advancement is slim. Thats simply fact. While I make far more than the regional average I will no longer receive much in the way of pay increases. 25 to 50 cents an hour for the yearly review and maybe a living wage increase that is company wide. I’m ok with this as I make 3 times more than I had ever thought I’d make and the company has given me chances that most wouldn’t so I feel like I owe them.

Its not the same for people under me. They make similar or less than what other companies in the area hire for. And as they have experience in the field they can talk their way into more than starting wages. Their chances for advancement are slim as all the positions are filled (with me being the most junior by far outside of the above mentioned HR woman.) I hate to say it because I want my company to succeed but they are better off applying elsewhere.

You’d think Druid would be the one class to be a force of nature to reckon with… badum tsk

Uh huh. I’m not taking the b8 m8.

It’s horrible. Especially when you’re trying to progress something long-term. But it’s reality. You are not owned by your employer. You do not have any kind of moral responsibility to close out your projects before moving on. If that places an insurmountable strain on the company, that’s a failing on the company. And if they try to guilt people into staying along the same line of thought you’re promoting here? All the more reason to leave.

We call this the “bus test.” Will this system or project survive if its current champion is hit by a bus on the way to work tomorrow? If not, it is the company’s responsibility as an organization to ensure there is a system for continuity in place. It is an organizational failure if there isn’t one.

How about this my dude, so we don’t derail this topic any further let’s come to a middle ground. Not all but MOST Corporate America is pretty terrible to work for with little room for improvement however some businesses usually offer better opportunities and benefits. This is backed up by the recent worker shortage After People realizing their self worth after a pandemic.

Hows that?

Yep. When all you have above you is a couple company men that are going to ride their current office into their graves, the only option is to look externally for advancement if advancement is your goal.

This is so true. And a companies failure to do it can be a lazy employees way to prevent being fired. Learn or do what no one else does and do it long enough so no one else in the company knows how to do it any more. You are now the next thing to irreplaceable.

I have done it with every job I’ve ever worked at and it works great. Management was even willing to over look attendance points back in my youth when they would have fired anyone else.

And that’s fine, and they should if that’s what they need. I don’t have a problem with that sort of thing per se.

I honestly think you’re here just to insult people and argue. if something I said upset you, by all means, show me what it was, otherwise why are you responding to me?

Yes, so a dev or anyone else who leaves a project in the middle, probably doesn’t help the team and is a burden, yes? It might be reality that people have to leave, but it’s also a reality that there are ramifications to peoples actions, good and bad.

If the dev who left ended up getting a better job where she’s happier, then by all means, I’m happy for her. But there are consequences to people jumping ship, especially when Blizzard is in a crunch period while trying to launch an expansion.

I literally don’t care about any of that. “Most” isn’t a number, it’s a generalization based on your assumptive views of a “Corporate America” which are completely predicated on your inherent biases.

It should go without saying that peoples experiences with these sorts of things will vary. If that’s your point, then, ok?

Nope: The Shadowlands writers wanna turn the game into a scifi than a fantasy game.

Much of that was shown by removing immortality features from every aspect they can, kill off all gods, bring out ‘human Mortal Potential’ and make the divine-nature & divine-death aspects created through robotlike synthetic machines.

Dear Blizzard:

  • If I wanted age of mortals - I’d play Sims.
  • If I wanted advanced robot age - I’d play Horizon.
  • If I wanted to NOT be playing a fantasy game – Looks like, I’ll now be playing WoW. :eyes:

WoW was the only MMORPG game that I could play as a Druid and get the divine nature & divine death (Wild Gods and Eternal Spirits) roleplay to coincide & bond with. Shadowlands did its best efforts to erode & erase that.

It was fun writing blogs on Great Resignation (i work as content writer)

I do not deny that. But you were implying that there is some kind of moral failing should this person jump ship in the middle of a project. I emphatically disagree with that premise.

There can be an issue. But I also said that I don’t know the reasons why she left or what conditions she left the team in. For all I know she could have done everything possible under her own abilities to help the team.

If it’s happening to enough people then it’s not antidotal. This entire thread is telling you this.
I’d say that’s a pretty big coincidence…

Realistically, it is.

Ooh, going for the Uno Reverse. Let’s see how it plays out for you.

Blizz is always in a crunch period. There is always a new patch or expansion being worked on. They did this to themselves by not hiring enough devs and over working the ones they do have while under compensating them.

If there is anyone to blame here it is not the employee for finding a new position that is better for her but management for not incentivizing them to stay and by not having a plan in place for when an employee leaves. These are things that any competent employers do.

Failing that, you can also assess what makes you unique and run with it. And if you aren’t unique? Find a setting that does make you unique. My skillset is a dime a dozen in the education field, but exceedingly rare in industry. As such, it’s invaluable.
