D&D just straight up murdered the franchise so they could move on to a Star Wars project . . . only for Disney to fire them.
8 years of diligently watching that show, only for those two knuckleheads to throw it all away on a poorly contrived plot. All that build up for the Night King for what? All that build up for Dany to break the wheel and for what?
This and he doesn’t do a very good job of painting a world in my head. LotR does this, the Dragonlance books do this, hell even the Halo books do it better. But GRRM is terrible when it comes to painting a picture that isn’t a sex scene.
He’s also one of the slowest writers I’ve ever seen…
HBO should be ashamed of themselves for this. Dani was an intelligent, brave and caring character. In one scene they changed her from that to EVIL JEALOUS PSYCHO RAWR.
There should have been a lot more. Actual leaders of houses deferring to Jon, not just a Wildling and drunk. More of Jon’s rejection and maybe him finding a new woman. More grief over Rhaegal. Maybe show a lord recovering his body to take scales or show off his skull.
I mean anything besides what they did. I can’t even bring myself to watch season 1 through 6 since I know what happens in 7 and 8.
I’ve got 10 bucks riding on a bet with a friend of mine that he dies before it’s finished and that Brandon Sanderson finishes the series.
Dani was always crazy. She’s a Targaryan. The show just does a poor job of portraying it since she goes from murdering slavers (yay, justified) to murdering peasants (slightly less justified!) without showing her thought process of the crime being disobeying her and not y’know, excessive cruelty and wanton slaughter.
Also so much build up over Jon’s true parentage and identity for it to mean…literally nothing?
So many plots in GoT just went nowhere because the producers wanted to wrap it up in 4 episodes instead of the 2-3 seasons it still had to take to properly resolve everything.
She poked him with a dagger and he just kind of exploded.
WoW writers were probably involved. Hey look a decent character with a decent story…nah let’s just flip a 180 and turn her into the person she swore to never be like.
I liked it well enough, did watch the whole series. My main likes were Arya, Tyrion and the Watch/Night King arcs. Loved their characters. It is a good show I think, but without them I probably would have lost interest.
I wasn’t into Daenerys at all either. I don’t think the last season was out of left field, she was obviously going that route at some point.
Maybe I missed it but I never got that from the books. I thought for sure they were setting her up to be different, not more of the same, but I guess that honor went to stupid Jon Snow.
She’s not outright “burn anyone who defies me alive” crazy like her parents were, but she definitely has the authoritarian streak to her.
It’s really not a stretch for her to go from using her dragons against slavers to using them against soldiers to using them against peasants if properly explained and they just don’t do that in the show.
I refused to bother with the show after the second season because I read the books. I saw that they were doing their best to collapse characters into chimeras to save on cash and make it easier to digest to a TV audience and thought that would eventually cause a ton of problems.
From the books I always assumed that the Targaryen’s were basically ‘dragon wargs’ like how the stark family had the link to the Dire wolves. I supposed the repeated cases of inbreeding may have taken its toll alongside the link between them and dragons making them volatile enough to basically collapse their entire house. These things would obviously reflect on how Daenerys handles everything involving Targaryens. Basically her going ‘mad’ or not being the effect of linking to three dragons or the way everyone treats her/portrays her.
So thats how it went down? An explosion? Like I assumed they make Arya die at the hands of the Wight king after she shanks him causing mortal damage that will kill him eventually. This death would obviously inevitably due to daeny traveling north and bringing spring. Since you know Dragons existing does weird stuff like that.
Like there isn’t a whole lot of context missing. Night King corners Bran because he wants him for reasons, kills Theon, Arya kinda yeets outta nowhere, stabs him and that explodes him and every other White Walker, as well as killing all the wights as well.
They spent 7 seasons telling us that winter was coming and then it went away in a single episode.
