2002 PoP launched. Losing items on death was still in when I left. I think I dropped around GoD. Did not know they changed that. PoP had a lot of controversy same with how you see flying does today.
I played Istaria where you can play a Dragon, as you level your Dragon gets bigger, and good old Everquest, I remember dragging bodies of dead players away to a spot and then they would struggle to find their corpse. Wow became popular because it was an easy mode MMO.

No, but that is what made it UO. No one will ever play a MMO like it in its prime ever again. UO for me was my favorite MMO of all time. As someone else said most people wouldn’t last 5 mins in UO.
Too bad after a couple years we got Trammel. But all great things come to an end. I know there are some cool oldschool player run servers out there. I used to play on a couple. The good ole days…

I played Everquest for years before WoW. Loved it at the time. I kind of miss it but when you go back and look at the graphics it’s like…never mind.

The updated graphics in Luclin make me cringe. Especially the elementals. I’m like oof.

Before WoW, I played Eve Online and the Matrix Online. Eve Online was much more unforgiving and brutal than WoW ever has been.
The Matrix Online will always have a fondness in my heart. The entire WoW community was looked down upon as a bunch of childish noobs. lol
Know those feels,wanted to play Ragnarok when I was in 10th grade but being a broke teenager at the time made that a tad difficult,at least with WoW back when I started college,I could get a friend to get us prepaid cards so as long as I helped split the bill with whatever cash I did have [IE- squirreled away holiday money or leftover cash from movie trips.] Hoping to go back to work soon so I can keep my subscription of stress relief ala WoW. [Dear vaccine,plz release to the public plebs like myself soon]

I played a little DAoC but it was rough on my vintage toaster at that time. WoW was the first time I committed to an MMO.
Been playing “MMOs” as far back as the late 80s / early 90s when I first found MUDs.
So, yep, some of us have been playing MMOs for a long time, way before WoW was around.

Ever since Classics been covered by YouTubers, players have been claiming to be “veteran” players from '04. It’s like they think they’re fooling anyone with their nonsense about it being hard.
