MY first MMO?
A game by Sierra called A Realm Online.
My first was Ultima Online in highschool, circa 94-95’.
Then EQ, FF Online(OG), and a few others before WoW.
Since WoW I just play until the devs piss me off and come back when I get the itch.
Like, we don’t want you to play Demonology.
Before, MMOs I played some muds and other text based adventure games as a kid in the late 80s.
Good times.
First started playing MUD’s like Gemstone III. Bought UO but couldn’t get it to work on the PoS computer I had at the time. Didn’t play anything till Asheron’s Call came out, played that for a little bit. I was playing Never Winter Nights when my brothers got me into WoW. Since then the only other MMO’s I’ve tried is GW2 and ESO.
Nope, this will be my first and last mmo.
anytime i hear the word ‘train’ i get PTSD flashbacks from EQ
SWG was my introduction to MMOs.
Perfect World International was my first, and yes it’s still terrible.
I get those from FF XI.
I remember playing Diablo 1 multiplayer, when i would hear all this talk coming in from players about this amazing mmorpg called, ultima Online. From that point i jumped ship and never looked back! best pvp game ever during 1997! UO to Everquest , for a good 2 years then i literally played every new and over hyped MMORPG to release. Asherons call, Dark age of camelot etc etc . Wow is like my 50+ mmorpg give or take. I know it is alot of players number 1 and will always be their number 1 .
But old school vet like myself, i like WoW but i campare it to A LOT of games that already had a lot of WoW features.
long live THE BUTCHER!
Ragnarok Online for me! I still hop on from time to time. I played like 2005-2012, then TERA, and in 2014 I finally gave WoW a chance, and stuck with it.
I started with Ragnarok Online as my first MMO. Then tried to get into Ever Quest. At my age I wasn’t able to wrap my head around the systems and went back to RO. I miss that game. Thankfully they made it free to play so I can jump into my account every now and then and relive the glory days. Just a shame it’s mostly a bot landscape now.
Im with all the Ragnarok players The good old days of not having a blasted clue of what i was doing… and having the excuse of being new.
Then City of Heroes… and then wow…
The thing is, alot of people think of vanilla as a old salt mine of a grind because it WAS their first MMO, we didnt see the population boom until midway/tailend of BC and then Wrath when alot of QoL features started to pop up.
And by then you had the vanilla players talking about how much harder it was “back in their day” so that left a impression
Oh man, I totally forgot that that was a thing in other games - if you aggroed a mob, you had to run to the edge of the ENTIRE ZONE to lose it!
Toontown Online and Neopets and Kal Online
UO came out in 97.
