Eh, open world adventure has been a thing since… uh… huh.
Google claims 1984. Which… wow. I knew it would have been longer than I thought, but that’s insane.
Point is, Elden Ring is just a Dark Souls-y take on an ancient genre, and outside that, I can’t see D4 having much to do with it. Sure, it’s dark and gritty, but opaque and challenging? Probably not.
I blame the greed and the fact that it’s changed story writers so many times and the fact that…clears throat…NO ONE KNOWS WHATS GOING ON ANYMORE!!! (I mean the writers btw)
No shot D4 is going to be good. Them releasing D4 with a “traditional” monetization scheme will hurt Diablo Immortal and it’s ability to hunt down whales.
They’re also choosing their words carefully when talking about it, They didn’t say the store in D4 would be “only” cosmetics. They said “anchored” around cosmetics, which they 100% used to leave the door open for other monetization and possible P2W shenanigans.
Eh, probably not. Or at the very least, not exclusively.
If you can ramp the difficulty up to “Souls-like” as an option, that’d be one thing, but also inherently defeating of the whole notion of Souls-likes, at least according to many die-hard fans of the “genre.”
It’s not Dark Souls if there is a safe-word difficulty option.
Not really, the game is not predatory, only to people who can’t resist clicking the “buy” button, that is not even in your face most of the time (it is a few clicks away). It is just easy click-bait views for streamers and such to jump on the “P2W / Predatory Monitization” bandwagon.
Why are you looking for a WoW replacement? Are you on an entertainment diet?
Is this like one of those dopamine “tolerance break” things? You’d probably get the best results just being bored for a couple of weeks and then jumping right back into WoW.
Don’t base what you do or enjoy doing on the behavior or participation of others.
The only way to spare yourself from this sort of turmoil in the future is to learn to do and enjoy things that rely on nobody but you.
If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it. What do you enjoy? Do that.
