DF system requirements

because ssd over 1tb are not cheap compared to hdd’s. you also didn’t answer my question of how an application can REQUIRE an ssd to run when hdd’s do basically the same task just slower. instead you just derailed it into a endless loop of “you guys have ssd’s right?” and “well have less games”

Then have less games? Why is it ok for other games to use an SSD but not WoW?

An SSD has no moving parts, it is basically a big usb chip. HDDs are basically a stack of flimsy CD-like platers that have to move to find the right data, it’s why you have to defragment them, ssd don’t need defragging.

yes but if you have a program like wow that was originally built to run on hdd’s? suddenly developers require ssd’s what internally stops the program from launching just because there is no ssd? it is still a storage medium. what about it not being a ssd stops the application from being read properly? is it now a flash program? this doesn’t make sense.
im just really confused about how this works.

minimum requirements for the worst looking iteration of the game possible.

maximum are where its at i exceed them all. big boy club

it really isn’t. As a potato computer user most this stuff is really just a suggestion more than a requirement lol.

It’s the server network speed. If your HDD takes too long to respond with the data then the server has to ‘reask’ and the hdd has to look for it faster than the network expects a response.

not trying to be a pain but wouldn’t that be handled through the motherboard’s network port instead of the ssd?

It doesn’t stop it from launching, it just runs like crap.

huge SSDs are super cheap now. no excuse.

samsung 2tb ssd for 200$ DISCOUNTED from 260$ on amazon. bro that’s NOT cheap.
2tb hdd 50-70$. hmmmm.

its literally the first result for 2tb ssd. that’s odd for some reason the op i had put on my ignore list showed its reply how odd.

member when i played on a pentiumD with a 8800gt

time goes by so fast.

Because random reads are what mechanical drives suck at, we are heading towards just random reads for asset loading

You understand that 8 copies of WoW could fit on a 1TB drive right? Why would you need a 2tb drive for WoW.

thats extremely cheap. but why do you want a 2TB ssd? if your pc is so bad that you need to be at minimum for the game you probably arent really playing big games anyway on your PC. get a small one

i have a ssd and i honestly didn’t notice much difference in how fast it loaded. maybe a minute or two difference that was it. then again loading screens are usually my queue to go make some food or do something else.

Because times change, software demands change, things increase in performance requirements, you used to be able to run wow on a pentium 3, you can’t do that anymore

I am excited to see some improvement to ray tracing hopefully its a big graphics update DF as i just got a rtx 3080

they have to sort of be careful with how high they push the gpu requirements as the chip shortage and pandemic has caused havoc with the gpu release market forcing companies to take the unprecedented step of re-releasing older gpu’s again to make up the shortfall. i.e. re-releasing 2060/1660 line. people who have higher end systems are very much in the minority this time around.

They really don’t, They are asking for a near 10 year old GPU as MINIMUM specs at this point, That isn’t much to ask for here, Shortages or no, Eventually you still need to replace parts.
