Devs stop designing these horrible fights

Gonna say first off I doubt there’s a single person that enjoys the style of mythic tindral and fyrakk where it’s basically a 7-10 minute encounter where if 1 mechanic is messed up it’s an insta wipe. Outside of the RWF for entertainment this has zero place in lower levels of raiding and whoever is responsible for these fights shouldn’t be allowed to cook again.
Added the class tuning has felt abysmal over this tier (boomy is so bad we have to play feral for the last 3 basically) due to severe negligence by the development team. I’d love to get actual answers as to why these decisions were made and who they were made for because the everyday CE guild doesn’t play at this level. This tier killed off imperative, BDG, and who knows how many other guilds.

We were sold a promise at the end of SL that a tier like SotFo wouldn’t occur again. Seems the devs have decided to forget this statement.

we stopped having 360 cleaves because they were too punishing. but we have this…

you want to make a hard fight? make the boss immune to taunt.

Calling cutting edge “lower levels of raiding” seems a bit…

You obviously didn’t read what I said. There’s a design to raiding where we get the bosses at their hardest states earlier in the tier, but as it progresses to help us 300-600 guilds that usually acquire CE later in the tier comparative to WF / HoF over said hump they introduce nerfs. This also alleviates pressure on the higher end guilds that at this stage should have fyrakk on farm, making it easier to complete progression for the lower end of CE guilds and speed up farm for the higher ends.
This has been historically done throughout every tier to keep a healthy raiding scene as most guilds post SotFo disbanded due to the horrible job they did difficulty tuning wise. Same will happen this tier given the horrible job of tuning they’ve done.

Added context. Name another tier that’s had sub 300 kills in NA on week 19. There aren’t any and that alone shows just how negligent the devs have been. It’s borderline criminal.

We stopped having the random, instant cast silences and fears from Mana Tombs too. That doesn’t meant that dungeons are easier, no matter how hard we thought Shadow Labs was back in the day.

Good thing cata classic is around the corner. Back to a time when raiding was challenging but not frustrating.

I’m curious how the classic player base is going to respond to heroic 25 Rag.

Eh, I kinda disagree. I lost a lot, and I mean a lot of casual friends from WotLK → Cata.

Mainly because they all found the heroic 5-mans too hard from WotLK, and 10-mans and 25-mans were “equivalent” difficulty, which meant the 10-mans were really really hard for them and they ended up quitting because they could not clear the raids.

When you think about WotLK, Naxx, TOC, and Icecrown were really really easy raids, and then Ulduar when you activated hard mode at least we pretty challenging, and heroic Hallion was pretty challenging, but again for all of those you had the 10-man option.

Cata was the start of them doubling down on “If everything is hard the game is better!” and then the subs started to decline, and Ghostcrawler dipped and that’s been the development mantra ever since. They tried to course correct with LFR, but that lacked the social aspect that made people form guilds in the first place and they didn’t try again until the end of MoP with Flex raiding.

Some boss fights are coming out tuned so high that even a gear advantage is punishing. RWF is fine in the sense that they hyper-optimize and gear out their comps and backups to be flexible, but it’s crazy that Tindral Sageswift was released at the difficulty that it was, even for RWF. Fyrakk might’ve even be a smidge hard for the RWF/HoF crowd.

Honestly, if these bosses didn’t get nerfs before we even got to them (Smolderon maybe, Tindral, and Fyrakk definitely), CE would probably wouldn’t have even been possible for my 2-day guild. It’s exhausting dropping 200-350 pulls into a fight just trying to get the marathon of execution down, but I guess I’m at least thankful we haven’t gotten a 14+ minute prog boss like Sylvanas again. These auto-wipe marathon styles need to be shorter, like Halondrus was.

My only real gripe to CE raiding is the hyper-specific utility needs for some fights. You have mandatory raid buffs, and then a laundry list of utility for some fights. It is cool, but it also feels limiting when a class like mine (Warrior) has historically had very little to none of these things. Hell, we were so trash in Castle Nathria it was actually better to bring another Mage and tune your comp around not gaining benefit from Battle Shout, and it would’ve been stronger.

It will be fun to try it out again

Utraxion is a terrible fight.
