Development Preview: Cross-Faction Instances

Remember that time that sun elves decided to join the faction with orcs, trolls, and undead? It’s all a blur to me.

will I be able to fish in Orgrimmar in peace now?

You mean the elves that left the Alliance of Lordaeron after the end of the 2nd WAr which was the end of WC2

I literally don’t remember. I’d need to replay the campaign to remind myself on what the pretext was, but I remember it being nonsense to me at the time.

It’s all a big, convoluted blur that Blizzard backpedaled away from with void elves.

They had better not be using this as a scapegoat to not having a new class in the next xpac. otherwise i’m so excited to play with all my alliance friends with my main instead of half geared alts!

I love you Blizzard!

I feel like you listened to the community and gave us something that supports FUN. Fun with FRIENDS.

This is the worst day in the games history. It’s over.

please open my bar for the lolz

The player base is pulled into one queue for instanced content only. The factions remain the same otherwise, so good times?

Over for who? A tiny group of people, who would rather see the Alliance dwindle into nothingness, than allow cross faction in raids and dungeons? The game has been dying for years and this change is a great step towards reviving it.

Please review how you are going to handle raid consumables. Either allow cross faction trading (hell you can’t even cooking mats at the moment with your own faction if they are cross server) or adjust the recipes.

Also it’s opt-in (if I read it correctly) so if you want to be a die-hard faction loyalist and only play blue or red only, then you can double your own queue time if you want.

Over for the old guard that have declared they would fight and die on this pointless hill for the past several years that this change was urgently needed.

We will not mourn them.

I have not read All the intervening posts (a few… not all LOL) I think this is a great start … I’m all for it . Go babies go!
.
Keeping in mind if this goes well , guilds and mailing within the same realm same account, might be next . hope hope hope … :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The factions and having to choose is what makes the game a RPG. Bye bye RPG. You said when shadowlands came out that you needed to choose wisely because you wanted it to feel like it had a consequence. You’ve removed that. You’re taking the most important thing out of this game. If people want to play with friends it isn’t hard to level and play with them. If want to keep people don’t put this system in place as you’re going to loose more people from it. The people who are crying for it don’t care about the story they don’t know anything about the factions. I guess this is bye bye to world of warcraft and hello to Lets Sit and Talk About Feelings: The more I cry the more I get.

“…there are decades of animosity to overcome.”

As a note on the canonical gameplay experience, there are also decades of productive cooperation between the factions, from the Might of Kalimdor and the Ahn’Qiraji War Effort, to the events that concluded the Fourth War and on into the present day. The “cycle of hatred” has seen us allied with one another in the face of greater threats to the world which we share far more often than we’ve been pitted against one another in open warfare. Even Classic was set in a time of armistice, where formalized elements of the factions held truce in the aftermath of the events of Warcraft 3 while isolated, rogue elements such as the Shattered Hand and the Stormpike Expedition worked to advance their own agendas through violence and animosity.

“This is about increasing options for players.”

As to ensuring that cross-faction gameplay remains an entirely optional, “opt-in” feature, why not allow players to opt into it rather than restricting its availability to predetermined elements of gameplay? An updated LFD interface that has a toggle to “allow cross-faction groups” would presumably relieve existing burdens on the LFD system, reducing overall wait times for players, while executing the goal-state of not overriding players’ preferences. Likewise, cross-faction guilds embody the very concept of “opt in” gameplay as players choose which guilds and communities they wish their characters to belong to. While there are undoubtedly coding elements and technical limitations “behind-the-scenes” that make this an enormous undertaking, the feedback thus far suggests that it would be time well spent.

Spends two weeks and level someone of the other faction. No need to change the game for you.

HELL YES! Finally, vulpera can get in the draenei horn turret and blast spells atop their paladin tank!

This legit has me excited to play again. With several friends across both factions, this is wonderful news.

Now if only guilds could also be cross faction. Oh and Draenei Warlocks… yes we need Draenei Warlocks for sure.

On a side note. I would love a quest to switch factions with my characters like they had in EQ.
