They’d have to make a brand new spec, with a new resource, with completely new abilities… At that point, they’d have better luck just making a brand new class because the ‘gaps’ to fill with a spec tree would be more like filling in a canyon since evokers have no real tank-adjacent gameplay.
It isn’t necessary, but it’s an opportunity to make something interesting instead of ‘Devastation, but a different color.’
Aug’s spec tree has to be massively reworked either way. What is its identity and flow going to be? What’s the hook? Why does it even exist instead of being deleted, other than a fallback for when Dev is poorly tuned?
It can still have a support gimmick. Like enhancement…
That’s how it can be different from dev
Lol no it can’t. Support is cooked in WoW.
If the group buff component is strong, it becomes impossible to balance. If group buffs are weak, then why are you even wasting time doing them for an extra +10%?
Shamans are not totem-twisting anymore. They cast Skyfury and go.
Some people just like the simpler way of “keep ebon might timer going” with fixed cooldowns. It already has a different flow from Devastation which is all about stacking multipliers onto Disintegrate channels or setting up Engulf bursts.
Enh still has wind fury.
Just make ebon might affect like one other player or something like that
It can still work.
OR
just make it a self spell and have Aug work around augmenting itself
Either way it’s better than working the spec from dps to tank for no reason.
If there’s a salvageable amount of stuff that can be directly converted to self-dps then sure that’s the easy solution. I don’t know the feel, only the consensus opinion I’ve heard that it was baby-easy at a decent level.
I’d honestly rather spend resources making Pres less of a hideous cluster, but I do like tanking so having that as an option when the class looks like this might scrape it off my last place entry.
I will still maintain that Aug sounds like a rad tank and there are zero mechanical hurdles that haven’t already been performed for other tanks.
I mean… I’m pretty sure Brewmwasters would prefer their spec be cleaned up before they undertake trying to completely overhaul a caster into a tank. So when it comes to mechanical hurdles, considering the others existed for over a decade, making a brand new tank wouldn’t be an easy hurdle to cross over.
Augvoker had become effectively mandatory for high keys, meaning 1/3 of all dps spots after a certain ++ were being reserved for Aug. I don’t blame Blizz for wanting to revisit that. Having one support class in the game is problematic. Hard to balance it to a point where it’s viable for average players without making it broken for advanced players. Hard to make it a valid option without making it essential.
Evoker is a mid range class that frankly benefits from being close to the action. Prevoker basically needs to pocket the tank and is like the one healer that has positionals due to 2 of its primary aoes being conals, meaning you’re better off doing it it next to the tank if you also want to hit the raid (just try not to get caught in the cleave!)
Also support dps being somehow different from ranged (most ranged specs bring support, lust at the very least) was always a weird escalation.
Weird, our pres evoker on our Mythic prog team is almost never next to the tank because they put the raid between them and the tank. Shooting an echo or dream breath from the tank’s location seems counter-intuitive when you’re forced to move more in melee range since if they aren’t in the frontal they have to choose the tank or the raid instead of getting both. Plus, being near the tank means there’s a greater chance of other ranged being out of range of you.
Part of me thinks you haven’t actually played an Evoker…
Oh no whatever will I do I have been judged by a mythic raider (I exclusively played evoker in DF, happy)
There’s a difference between judging and questioning.
If you think Blood DKs use death coil, that Azure strike is a resource spender, and that presvokers stand near tanks… It’s a matter of questioning knowledge when there seems to be a lack of understanding.
Well, a spell caster Tank would be unique.
Casters have no business being tanks. Being unique doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
Right we should go back to when Paladins were just priests who can stab
Lol how’s that related to this
People want a Spellsword Class, how far away would that be from a casting Tank?
But you like demonization!
You got me
I like fictional Demons, especially the Warcraft ones. I think horns, hooves and wings are hot
I don’t like it when people treat others like they are evil when they don’t do anything wrong just because they belong to this or that group that is perceived to be bad. I think that’s unfair and unkind. That’s what I meant when I said “demonization” lol
