I made a picture of a dog with my spaghetti noodles.
Then I ate it

Way i see it only part of art that matters is the act of creating it. Afterwards it is just a product to be bought sold and destroyed at the owners whim. Only the smallest handful of it is worth preserving for posterity.
The etch a sketch industry gonna go bankrupt
So true across the board, it seems.
Everyone thinks everyone else’s life is their business to get involved in.
Well, the security alone is pretty significant. I have no idea what it costs to clean it.
The issue is that one ties into the other; to preserve WoW in it’s totallity you would need multiple server farms which require temperature controls, steady access to electrical energy and a dedicated team of technicians and security personnel which is going to cost gobs and gobs of money which has to come from somewhere and expecting Blizzard/Microsoft to do that indefinitely out of pocket is absurdly Naive.
By comparison Something like a Statue or a painting typically only needs to avoid being touched directly by the public (and control over the level of light hitting the painting/photo I suppose).
Probably would not crack the top 25.
I’m sure it’s quite a pretty penny, but I doubt it’s along the lines of the monthly or yearly costs of the servers, bandwidth, and staffing costs for WoW.
Then preserve it.
In 1,000 years you won’t exist, but humanity exists and so should all art created by humanity.
Not forever.
In the grand scheme of things ownership is irrelevent. Only preservation. All art created by humanity was not created in a vacuum it is a product of human unconscious
Exactly. Art is any creative work. But it can be preserved.
Creating it is special every piece of art is a resonate of humanity. Every creation is the result of every generation that came before you.
All of it is worth preserving. Even that which is objectable.
Not really.
Then give it to the government to archive.
Yes you did. And I disagree.
Insurance and security for Mona Lisa runs around 10 million annually. Personally I would never pay that for any piece of art.
Is this about the fruit painting in WoW?
See it is posts like this that label you a troll, you ignore any of the actual posts calling out how any of this is actually achievable and state the government or the corporations should be responsible to doing it without stating how that would actually be achieved in any way while down playing the monetary sides importance because all of these things have rather steep costs associated with the preservation.
i feel like you’re awfully close to approaching an important question (namely “what is art?”)
I’d honestly put Youtube’s management above it.
If you want to maintain WoW in it’s totallity that means maintaining 277 servers spread across 3 major regions (North America, Europe and Oceanic) and as such you are going to need dedicated properties for this.
Which government? WoW is playable in pretty much any country that has a decent internet service.
Please take an actual art history course before posting this drivel
Like this right here is key: It costs money to maintain things for the government and the money for that has to come from somewhere. A prime example of this would be something like say… a national park. These places preserve wildlife and/or historical sites but help to defer the cost by charging people for access and/or merchandise.
that’s notpart of the art.
Creative works by humans.
Everyone can have a different definition of what art is and what it means to them, there is no one size fits all label.
There is this thing called taxes. And also money is fake and the government controls it.
