Absurdly hard NES Classic era game, reimagined as a grim and gritty anime about the main character. Plot involves the warrior and his magic sword fighting off scientifically engineered demons in the modern era. Said demons were brought back by mad-scientist who is apparently ALSO his old acquaintance / enemy restored to life. An epic sword fight ensues when the scientist becomes a Chrono Trigger reject and challenges his enemy.

Added an edit and a new puzzle for folks. 
Party of three get lost in a big city, avoid getting kidnapped by men in a red struck, and a girl follows them back after one is almost hit by a car near their home.
Resident Evil ?
A malfunctioning AI sings an old song about Daisy.
Similar in style but the hero relies on his family’s magic sword and ancient traditions to defeat his enemies. Could be argued that Resident Evil was inspired by some of the concepts of this game however!

Spoke while two of the men of the movie unload on scientifically engineered monsters and discuss the finer points of the murder-hobo lifestyle (aka what it means to be a mercenary), and how happy it makes them to be back on a battlefield.
Movie was / is an anime and done in Japanese language but is dubbed. 
Across the pond, mother love, kaiju style.
