Demon Hunters: The real problems that WoW's newest class faces

it works for a high mobility fantasy with the DH’s. Fast paced combat with few abilities to use works well for a class who’s form of defense should be running around and dodging attacks.

But it doesn’t.

To be an army of 100 and still have the same power as everyone else, each member of your army (including yourself) has to be 100 times weaker than a regular person.

It ends up implying that Warlocks and the whole of Demonkind are just a bunch of weaklings.

“Weakling” is not a good fantasy for a Class that was always about risking your soul for ultimate power.

In a perfect world they would have both.

Except its not a “Weakling fantasy” because you have to rely on powerful demons, the fantasy is you being able to control and direct those powerful demons. An example of this would be something like a mech pilot. The pilot himself may be weaker then others, but he gains strength by cleverly using the tools granted to him. Much like how a warlock uses demons to his or her advantage.

I mean… if the shoe fits…

I’m just kidding, Mortis. On that point I agree with you; I will forever disagree with you that “turning into a demon” is better warlock fantasy than is “summoning an army of demons”, but… if you’re going to rely on summoning an army of demons, demo-locks need something like an unholy DK’s Apocalypse, where it’s a huge DPS spike as your imp-army shows up and blasts your foe to pieces.

As havoc, in all the mythic+ I’ve done since the patch dropped (all of them, twice), I was easily top on almost every trash pull, but against a boss I was almost always last place dps. I’m not sure if this was due to the inherent nature of almost all the bosses being extremely melee unfriendly, some of which I would end up having less than 75% uptime on the boss, or the nerfs that DH received.

I will say the rotation feels rather clunky at times, downright slow at others. The synergy and fluidity that marked the demon hunter of Legion and BFA is gone, replaced by a version that feels weaker, less formidable, and decidedly less smooth.

As far a VDH goes, it’s the same exact rotation (minus gluttony of end BFA) that its been since Legion. Now you throw in a fire breathing cooldown every minute or so, but other than that: Fracture, fracture - spirit bomb. Nothing has changed. As far as dps goes, as VDH, once again, I pull ahead of a lot of dps on trash fights (even with a non-tank covenant). With meta, flame breath, and spirit bomb, my self heals are all right. With the Fiery Breath legendary, a VDH could easily go full defensive build with charred breath/agonizing flames/burning alive and be super tank.

I think you’re underestimating vengeance tank, especially without factoring the new legendaries that can make them quite formidable and extremely viable as tank, not to mention, that some raid groups may choose to bring a vdh as tank, instead of a melee havoc, who by all accounts, is underperforming every other dps out there right now.

Yeah, hand of gul’dan just isn’t cutting it for conveying that well. Warlocks could probably do with a talent for summoning a real army of imps or other demons.

There are no powerful Demons in the Demonology Warlock’s kit. Any Demon a Demo Lock can summon is weaker than a regular person.

Why would you want to be a perishable mortal, wither and die of old age when you can be a forever young Demon that gets infinite resurrections?

I absolutely love the fact that DH’s are more simple than other classes. I can play my DH if I want to chill and not have to push 500 buttons. That being said, you can still be extremely skilled and work on fine-tuning your play just like you can on other classes, so it’s not boring in my opinion. If I don’t want that level of simplicity/style, then I can play one of my other 10 alts if I want something different and more complex. I sincerely hope they never change DH much from what they have now, it’s enjoyable and different.

So far, Shadowlands is a very haste-unfriendly expansion so far. Both Smedmore and my DH are down to the low teens of haste, whereas in BFA they were up in the high 20s at least.

And on a demon hunter? That lack of haste is… very impactful.

This is a brilliant overlook! I feel EXACTLY like that!

I mean… when I’m playing my demon hunter, technically I get infinite resurrections. I have a demon’s soul, remember?

But wouldn’t you say that there’s a difference between temporarily taking a demon’s form (a la metamorphosis) and actually physically becoming a demon (a la eredar)? I think WoW-playable warlocks were always supposed to be the former and never the latter, whereas DHs are part-way to the latter… which is why sometimes they can’t handle it and wind up going crazy or blowing up.

I mean, a felguard is apparently “weaker than a regular person” but we saw how that worked out for the King of the Alliance.

We do too sometimes.

a) These demon hunters are talking about their ability, called Metamorphosis.

b) To answer your question, the current meta is a term that basically means what the very top players and very top builds are doing. That is “the meta.”

Its also important to note what is not meta. Like, if you see all the pro streamers doing arcane mage in super-high mythic plus, but you happen to like frost, then you are not meta.

And, fwiw, there obviously is a “meta” for raiding (each top spec) and for M+ (the preferred tank, healer, and dps that make the best possible group) and there is also a meta for pvp in arenas etc.

Hope this helps.

Technically Warlocks do get a permanent Demonfication.

The Demon Skin talent.

But since it has no animation and no visible effect (it just makes you bulletproof), it’s kinda not a thing…

no class is harder than any other class
1+1 isn’t easier than 2+2

There are varying difficulties among the classes and specs. To think otherwise is pretty silly.

played them all and nah

Well.

I guess that’s that, folks. Nyz says that all classes have the same difficulty, so it must be so. Let’s all pack it up and g’wan home!

I’m a disabled senior citizen and I’m really sick of the skill bloat. I have to use /castsequence macros and the game is getting harder and harder for me all the time.

Demon Hunter is one class that I don’t have to worry about, and I’m so glad for it.
