Brother, man, they have to tone down the difficulty of the game because your average gamer isn’t that 16 year old kid coked out on Code Red and Doritos anymore. The average SoD player is the 9-5 middle-of-the-road dad who just wants a couple of hours of peace from the kids and wife to hop on and clear content.
I agree the easy road is rather disappointing, but the target audience has changed my guy.

MMO’s aren’t what they used to be. The genre has evolved into a more casual friendly playstyle. The last MMO that tried to brand itself as exclusively hardcore was WildStar and look how well that went.
