Death Knights for the Future

A Knight of the Ebon Hold approaches you. “Hero, we have a grave proposition for you, if you would indulge us?” They ask, that should you fall, would you be willing to fight for a second time in undeath, for Azeroth. Should you accept, they will open a Death Gate to the floating fortress of Acherus where you will be informed about what you are about to participate in and asked once again, if you are truly willing to go down this dark road. If once again you agree, a scourge rune is engraved into your very soul that will on the moment of death send your soul to Acherus and a Val’kyr will retrieve your body, or whatever is left of it. The ritual will commence and you shall be raised into undeath as a Death Knight.

With the Helm of Domination destroyed, the power that allowed the Lich King to raise Death Knights from piles of corpses at a whim is gone. I propose a potential lore reason to add Death Knights to the races of Dracthyr and Earthen along with any new races.
Bolvar, along with the four horsemen and maybe have Margrave Sin’Dane over looking the ritual in Archerus, funnel their power into Your enter race here body to raise as a Death Knight. With just Bolvar and the horsemen channeling their power, can ONE Death Knight be made at a time. Since this a is such a power intensive task it isn’t just used on any unfortune, inexperienced soul. Only the proven heroes, tested time and time again in battle for our world are worth such an effort.

The first pile of word garbage being a rough outline of a quick quest to unlock new race DK combos to help introduce the lore reason.

I don’t know why. But I think they would need Val’Kyr Recruiters.

Not for sex appeal but a form of love that transcends death. Much so that your undeath life as a Death Knight would be a second purpose.

Pretty neat concept, eh?

We don’t need more. We shouldn’t even have allied races as DKs to begin with.

That would actually be pretty cool

Arent the valkyr followers of odyn, and fallen valkyr the ones raised into servitude of the lich king? By the way, booo on dracthyr dks. Maybe earthen, we can always use more dwarvens. But in reality dk should just get a super boost and become a grandfathered class

There are the ones who work for Odyn, the ones once bound to the Lich King, the ones in Bastian, and the ones sworn to the maw. I think Sylvie had a few too, but I don’t remember for sure.

As for no dracthyr, why? Our entire class has close ties to dragons, both living and undead. frost especially has more connections. I could easily see them as a sub faction within the Ebon Blade, the Clutch of Sindragosa

Who wouldnt help.

Who wouldnt help.

These were all the same. And they are dead, not “going to the Shadowlands dead” but super dead.

Even if any of these options was possible, I don’t see Blizzard doing this to introduce two new races to DK. When they did it to Allied Races it was a lot of races.

So I went and looked up a little bit more on this. The Val’kyr were made by Odyn, based on and sharing many powers with the kyrian of Bastian. The two are completely different from each other, though. Some of Odyn‘s group got corrupted and bound by the magic of the Lich King, and then later bound themself to Sylvie. They then followed her and worked alongside the mawsworn krian.

We don’t really know if all of them died during the firghts with the Jailor’s forces, and if they still live, if they’re bound to and helping Sylvie or are free agents. We also don’t know what’s become of the doubting kyrian who didn’t become mawsworn.

I only skimmed over the Bastion campaign though, so if someone played it has deeper insite on that, correct me.

The Nine were the last of the Val’kyr, the only argument that can really be had is if The Call of the Val’kyr called “living” or dead Val’kyr. The ability says “fallen” which would mean there were only 3 Val’kyr left bound to Sylv and they were pummeled.

Pretty sure they started working with the Kyrian to get back to where they were.

Nez’gul / Arthas and Bolvar were not the only ones raising death knight. Gul’dan learned this somehow and that still keeps the door open for new Dk’s

I would say Gul’dan’s DKs were a different order of creature then us, being more caster then warrior. They were however powerful undead, much like the newer dark rangers. It’s definitely possible to make powerful undead like us, and then train them in the runic magic that gives us our particular abilities.

Nope. He did not raise a single Death Knight of the scourge. He put shadow council souls into fallen stormwind knights. They were more warlock than what you know as a Death Knight.
