Boldly said, but I shall remain… unconvinced.
All you need to play this game are hands and eyes.
That’s nowhere near mandatory, as long as you know your stuff and/or prepare before the encounter you’ll be fine.
Stop playing the victim, they have implemented a lot of features for disabled people, some games don’t even have colorblind mode.
What do you lose that the rest of us who can hear don’t lose?
It’s far easier to communicate over voice than it is by other means.
Addons make things easier, and that alleviates the need to communicate. Communicating via text isn’t that easily seen.
We’ve been reading for years that “casuals” (people who farm trivial content 40+ hours per week) are bad at the game and can’t do M+, raid or even dragon riding because of disabilities so they should get mythic raid gear for shooting themselves out of cannons or eating grass on a ram.
Now, when an actual argument is being made-you want to object. All because you’re bad at the game and happy that people are going to be upset despite the fact that you don’t engage in any endgame content whatsoever so these changes won’t affect you at all.
You mean , other people in PVP , could see what ability I am going to throw , before I do it? Is this the kind of crap that is making my toon lag around enemy players?
You can very much use Healium in raids, haha. I did back in Cata when I actually raided. I used it when I played on an off all the way up through DF, but my friend made me switch to Cell for TWW. I’ll admit I like it better, but I miss Healium sometimes. I didn’t have to remember any hotkeys!
I hope you find help OP.
I am so sorry your thread got invaded by degenerates.
This is 2025, can’t imagine what 2035 will look like.
Degenerate would be a good Undead Female name, they could have like short gray hair and be a shaman or something Thanks for the idea! I am working on a deplorables guild now with red white and blue tabbard!
Smoldering and Draconic (DF s2 and s4) using my augvoker Plaspyre back then.
Title may go down some, but probably not that much since most premade groups use voice comms anyway, which is also partly why it’s somewhat difficult for me to get accepted by a premade group at the title level. Going forward into Midnight, it’s going to be even more important, which is the way Blizzard wants it apparently.
This is just not realistic to ask of random players, since I pug most of my keys. One hard truth I learned after becoming deaf is that most people are unwilling to put in the little bit of extra effort to communicate with the deaf. This goes for irl too, as I lost many friends who weren’t willing to include me in their conversations anymore. I wouldn’t expect most people to do it in an online game. This also won’t show when their CDs come back up again.
No. That’s not what I said. I said other people’s CD’s, meaning cooldowns. They can see what abilities you have on cooldown and know when they’re up so they can interrupt you or stun you before you’re able to even cast that ability. Thus tracking what you do, they do it to healers all the time, which is why PVP healers are so scarce.
I hope Blizzard adds something like the Fellowship interrupt tracker to make up for this.
Even with careful mitigation usage, enemy spells can be devastating to the party. Spellcasters will often attack with filler spells that do damage to the tank (or a random target), and sometimes more dangerous spells. These spells are indicated by a yellow cast bar.
ALL TANK AND DPS HEROES have an Interrupt ability that can stop these spells (often dubbed as ‘kicking’). When starting out, you should prioritize the most dangerous ones, but as you get to higher difficulties, even the filler spells start to hurt a lot more, so you will need to coordinate with your party. After you interrupt the enemy, they will not be able to cast for 4 seconds (except dedicated boss timers).
In Fellowship, you can target an enemy with an interrupt marker and a cooldown. By default, this is V. This will show your allies who you are targeting with your kick, and whether or not it’s ready.
Another way to interrupt casts is through Crowd Control (CC). In a pinch, any type of stun or forced movement will interrupt an enemy’s cast, such as Cyclone or Charge.
Lastly, some enemies have some abilities indicated by a grey cast-bar. You can’t interrupt these abilities, but you CAN CC them. Sometimes these abilities can be powerful, so it’s worth doing if you have the opportunity.
Here’s a picture:
In WoW, they could add this through the ping system. They could also add things like spell reflects and such, too.
Aside from the automarker thing you mentioned, I basically do this already using Plater customization, since Blizzard’s Nameplate options are severely lacking. I know there’s some automarker WA out there, but I haven’t tried it yet.
I haven’t seen what they plan to add in Alpha as far as nameplates go, but I’m guessing it’s going to be a shell of what Plater is capable of, since limiting capability seems to be their goal now.
It’s nice to see that this other game is copying and keeping up to date with the QoL and UI improvements from the WoW M+ scene. But now that they are doing away with a majority of the community’s creative inputs, where will future inspiration for their in-house UI come from? Both for WoW and this other game. Most of the improvements they seem to be providing us are just copied from existing addons, but more limited. And it has taken them a much longer timeframe to add them when they have. AH revamp took like 15 years, we only got Edit Mode to move some frames around just within the last 2 years, bag UI is still untouched since the beginning. Their track record does not give me faith that they can keep up with UI improvements, especially with their accelerated content release plans. Let’s not get into the lower attention to bug fixes recently either. It just feels like they are biting off more than they can chew, by a lot.
Earlier you asked what Blizzard could do to help a deaf person like me, and it just occurred to me. Why can’t they just add this option into the base UI? What’s the problem of making it baseline for everyone to see? Malicious intent in PvP was one thing you mentioned, but if it becomes baseline everyone has it and it provides no advantage in PvP.
I know it helped me learn about other classes’ CDs, as well as when people typically use them. I guess if it’s too overwhelming for new players they can add the option to hide it. Perhaps I’m biased, but I think more visibility is a good thing for new players, since they should learn faster that way. Lack of information is what leads to people not understanding what happened or how, which leads to frustration in the game. That’s why a lot of tools were developed to figure that out, like WCL and Details. And in this case with the interrupt and CD tracking, it would facilitate communication for people who can’t use voice communication.
Less visibility = less cutter. And that type of thing only matters above the top 1%.
Tracking cooldowns and interrupts wouldn’t remotely be beneficial for where most people play.
It really does not. This is crazy to say. Even while playing casually in Legion Remix right now, you have to stun enemies right before death that have leeches or else you take a good bit of damage in heroic outdoor content.
I will never understand people that just never want to interrupt or know when to interrupt something.
I only play with sound when I’m recording videos. I don’t use any specialized addons that replace sound effects — I play without sound.
You would sound different if you started talking about addons for the blind.
I’ve never seen anyone make the claim that casuals play 40+ hours of trivial content a week, and 100% of them are disabled.
There are people who have chosen to play casual content only. Some of these people don’t work (for whatever reason) and can play as much as they want. Some casuals are disabled, retired, or have health reasons why they are able to be at home on their computer all the time.
This is not a uniform group you seem to think it is. No one owes it to you or humanity to play a videogame any way they don’t find entertaining.
Are you playing to do mechanics or to down content? They are not the same.
You can overlap interrupts on the lower end and it’s whatever. You don’t need to know if people’s are off CD to make a relevant decision. Even on the high end? Just because it’s off cd, doesn’t mean people will use it.
You see people’s kicks are off cd on the high end and stuff goes off. To what important decision does that add to your decision making process?
I’ll agree to most of this, except I believe more visibility does not lead to more clutter if it’s easy and flexible to move around like addons have provided us. This is something Blizzard has struggled with giving us historically. The current state of Edit Mode still does not come close to allowing many players to position and size frames the way they want, and I’ve heard that the new CD Tracker has similar limitations.
I get that new players will not want to spend a lot of time early on tweaking their UI, but if their excuse is going to be to provide easier entry for new players, then I believe it should fall on Blizzard to start by creating a better default UI (with more modern positioning standards) and introduce some of the helpful options along the leveling progression. Like your first few levels could give you more of your skills, and introduce the type of skills they are: major dps cooldown, filler, spender, interrupt, crowd control, defensive. Introduce nameplates early on and show where the option menu is for it. Then, your first dungeon could pop up a dmg meter and have some quick information bubble explaining it. Entering your first raid pulls up a quick DBM tutorial or something like that. That way they could help new players without hindering advanced players as much. This is just my input though, from the perspective of a long-time player.
Mechanics are done to down content. One is necessary for the other.
Depends on the mob, your gear level and how long the fight lasts. I do even rank 11 delves in a group so sometimes yeah knowing what my group is doing is important.
Hell it was recently in just trying to see if we could already do DF raids as a group of three.
For alternating interrupts. YOU might not want nor need that information. Others do.
Op, your concerns are certainly valid!
My suggestion is to see if you can get into the PTR, or even Alpha testing if possible. See if you can “encourage” (lol) the Dev’s to come up with something. Might not happen immediately, but it could get placed in the “to do” list.
Marisol also gave a link to discuss such problems with Blizz. I’ll see if I can find it.
Here is one link I found. Not sure I can bring up the thread I wanted to find, but hopefully this will be of help.
