Day Two: #NoSharding

Sharding makes me feel like I’m sitting in a garrison again.

Exactly this

I can see why they want sharding at the start, no I don't agree with it, yes I'm a hypocrit because I see dynamic respawns as the lesser of two evils despite neither being in vanilla.

If pro-sharders are worried about not being able to level because of lack of mobs, you can always try exploration routes, huge amount of fun. I went from UD starting zone to EPL and Light's Hope Chapel in about 40mins and gained nearly five levels.

Or you can do Elwynn, Redridge, Duskwood, Westfall for the same xp :)
I'm more worried about not even being able to play because of server crashes due to 1000s of people in the same spot crashing the server.

Technology has gotten better, but a server will still have issues with to many people in the same spot causing it to crash.

Aka, server crash every 2 minutes as the launch experience isn't a good idea.

that's not even close to how it is going to shard and you know it.

The sharding they are looking at is

350 people
Sharded into two instances
175 people per instance

Those are example numbers, but I can tell you they do not intend to ever shard someone into a "no one is here" type of scenario that was the Garrison issue.
Enable queues.

Let the servers crash.

We will get through it, promise. I saw a basement server do it.

You fail to understand why they're considering the sharding. The biggest reason isn't what you've mentioned here; it has nothing to do with the current cloud server technology not being able to handle the load.

Ion talked about exactly why they're looking at using sharding as a tool. There's a video of it on YouTube. You should try comprehending his response before you post.

Btw, everyday =/= every day.

The point is, they WILL use it at other points. Not just launch.

They will.
Let me ask you guys a question who are ignorant to how servers work. Do you want to play the game or the server? I for one would like to be able to play at launch. I'm sorry that you guys have more time then everyone else who disagrees with you.
Its about Authenticity and Design, Not your convenience.

There is a severe lack of understanding from people who support sharding.

They are all 3/8 LFR.

They are all SJW scrubs.

Blizzard, the choice is clear.

Lol since when has BfA raid achievements meant anything?
I agree that sharding is bad but you sound like someone trying too hard to sound relevant.

There's going to be sharding at first, then they're going to stop using it. If you refuse to play because you really wanted some sort of chaotic, laggy opening with login queues then you'll just end up two weeks behind, or miss out completely. Either way, a lot of people will play and have a lot of fun. If it doesn't include you, that's your choice.

nice 3/8 lfr.

No Sharding.

If you think they will use this only at the begining you are fooling yourself.

What about Ungoro Crater when everyone is there?
What about AQ Gates?

Raid Launches?

Ect ect.

The launch isn't the only time that a high amount of players play.

Sharding will ruin Classic

#NoSharding

Your actually criticizing someone's retail raid progression on the Classic forums? *facepalm*
No sharding please. Thank you!

The way I see it, when we ran as a guild, we ran raids on Master Loot.
Sometimes accidents happen and we had a to ticket a Game Master.
It was 50/50 sometimes, which sucked.

But for PUGs people would ninja loot if it wasn’t on Master Loot, and then they left the raid cause they knew they weren’t getting anymore Loot.
This problem would still happen with or without the new system.

The ticketing a GM was the problem.
The idea that it’s 3 friends and 2 pugs and 3 friends all needing an item for their friend does suck, but that’s the risk you take for PUGs. The old system would prevent this, however the new system encourages it.

If everyone was like-minded, the system works. Both of them do.

Yeah, he's got a season pass on the short bus
At this point, I'm just hoping that Blizzard sticks to their word that sharding will only be a thing for the beginning launch.

Good. They'll need it.
I don't want any sharding.

Even after a long queue, I would prefer to know I'm in THE world, albiet crowded or laggy, not some strange fragment of it.

And more susceptible to DDOS attacks than retail.
Why no sharding? Nixxiom explains the reasons well. I don't want two-hour loot trade windows or any other "Quality of Life improvements." I don't want anything that minimizes social interaction and makes life "easier" in WoW - I want it just like it was, which is the whole point of this project.

Blizzard, please STOP attempting to introduce ANY non-Vanilla game mechanics (like trade windows) or non-Vanilla gameplay-technology (like sharding).

I don't want "New Vanilla" or "Classic Vanilla" - I just want VANILLA. As J. Allen Brack said at BlizzCon 2017, it's our favorite flavor. :)

Those are example numbers

That you made up off the top of your head.
Watch, I can do it too:

500 players
50 shard servers
10 players per server.

The game sucked. The server is what made it good.
I'll take the server.
