Ugh. “It was all a dream” retcons have killed entire TV series they pissed off their audiences so bad. Not interested in that for WoW.
I am hopeful that they put it back in its original location now that there’s no longer a threat from the scourge. It would also give alliance players a hearthstone option deep in the heart of horde territory.
Correct. Rife with rewrites and retcons. Guess what. So was vanilla. So was WC3.
At that point, just make WoW2, go back to WC2 - declare everything else an alternate, collapsed, inaccessible time line - re-write the entire setting since WC2. Follow the story beats as similar as you can, but keep all the lore consistent with the starting point of the end of WC2.
Maybe this time they could accurately convey their autorial intent and make the stratholme purge unambiguously evil and rob it of any pretense of nuance and justification (even though Uther and Jaina had no alternative).
We need Stratholme reconstruction.
I’m not at all a fan of it myself. But given the state of the “story” it is the preferable option.

Questline says it will never be a thing again, and the Kirin Tor are staying out of planet wide events.

They should turn it into a mini-game like an immigrant town in other games where you the player oversee construction and look for NPCs to bring over. Each player’s Dalaran is unique to them.
You do know why there is a crater in Hillsbrad Foothills roughly the size of what the floating city used to be right?
Hmm perhaps they ought to just remake it into a Ramen Shop, with complementary Sauna.
Jaina’s Locket too, item reward for finishing Shadowmourne.
If they could remake Dalaran and have it be the size of Boralus or Suramar…

I wouldn’t mind seeing the canonical stance of the Kirin Tor’s survivors regarding the city get retconned, especially since the writers have ensured they took just about every wrong lesson they could from it (I suspect as a narrative justification to not have to worry about it anymore). I’m certain any talk about the city actually coming back is either a cope or being misconstrued with something else (possibly Arcantina, I think), but I’d love to be wrong in this case.

Xal’atath was the second to destroy the city. Archimonde destroyed it in WCIII

Remember that one time they built a giant portal to Stormwind, right in the middle of a area teeming with hostile carnivorous plant and fungi monsters?

with all this focus on constant dopamine bombardment with new islands, expansions, etc I feel like WoW has forgotten how to let cities in the mainland become a ting and breathe once in a while.
