so I’m in the middle of the ‘stay a while and listen’ bits in “A Favor for Kinduru” and somethings bothering me
I thought it was long established in WoW that elves are descended from Trolls but Lor’Themar seems shocked that they share a lineage at all? Obviously the Haranir piece of this ancestary is a little different than how its been played in the game but this isnt new information, was that not common knowledge among in game characters? Or am I misunderstanding something?
It’s been hinted at for a while - Vanilla’s Alterac Valley had night elves hunting trolls to quell the rumors of being descended from them, and Legion had the blood elves and night elves taunting each other by saying the other is descended from trolls. I think Vanilla also had a text in the dwarves’ Hall of Explorers saying they think there might be an ancient link between elves and trolls, but they phrased it as ‘hints’ and noted that it was a touchy subject.
It was never stated how widespread the knowledge was or how accepted it was - but it didn’t seem to be that rare, just not accepted. The Legion prank, for example, implies that elves in general are expected to know what the ‘your ancestor’ taunt means, but also that it is an insult and not some scholarly statement of unequivocable fact.
The Haranir getting tossed into the equation is the only real new lore - the rest is politics.
I guess the Haranir’s hope is by getting all these fancy heads of state together and announcing everything in front of them will make it common knowledge and thus force them all to accept it and act on it by being friendlier to each other… But the goal of the meeting was never clearly defined, and being the same species hasn’t stopped factions in this very setting from killing each other over political differences anyway (I’m looking at you, dwarves).
