[CS Lounge]Zereth Mortis Dance Off

I kinda laugh at the people complaining about the rates going up. When we bought our house, the interest rate was 17%. The builder bought it down to 13% so he could sell houses. That rate was painful.

In a lot of places, buyers are waiving inspection (and offering a significant amount over list) in an effort to actually get the purchase. I don’t understand that one bit. With an investment like that, I’m sure I wouldn’t skip that.

If you have central air, I sure hope they fix that. If not, I hope you can survive in the one room with AC.

Rain and storms have been threatening for the last several days here, but nothing. They seem to break up just as they get here. As hot as it is, I know rain won’t make anything better. We’ll have highs in the mid to upper 90s and lows in the 70s all week. I can’t even open up the apartment at night to cool things off naturally. It was 77 at 4am when we left for our walk, but because of the humidity, it felt like 86. Now it’s 95 and feels like 106. It’s just miserable.

Yea I have heard a lot about people doing that as of late. Makes no sense to me either.

Since we were the first ones to see the house and immediately put the offer in - we were able to go under contract right after. So that stopped any other offers from coming in for it.

We are only moving about 15 minutes from where we are now, just into the next county.

We have 3 viewings scheduled for today thus far

Rhe photographer did an amazing job with the photos. At one poi t when looking at them i was like whst room is that? And it is MY house haha

Our realtor is extremely confident we will be within contract by Saturday. She expects us to get asking if not a little more.

We shall see how it goes.

In other news, i apparently kive on the surface of the sun cuz it is wicked hot here.

We will be in mid to high 90s all week. Which means close to triple digits where i am for the most part as the official temp is taken by the airport. Much warmer in town where i am.

Did someone say BACON?

Yes, bacon and cheddar topped pork chops with bacon/chive mashed potatoes (and curry carrots on the side)! This was tonight’s dinner.

Tomorrow, Teuf and I are under a heat warning for a couple of hours. Ah, A/C for the win.

Happy Monday all!

Edit: debating a significant purchase… Celestron NexStar 8SE. Part of me says wait until after the move next year, another part says “why postpone joy (a common phrase of the missus).” Biggest selling points: tracking drive, portability, pure geekdom.

I have a buddy that has a 10 or 12 inch Dobsonian. I’ve wanted one since the first time I looked through it, but yeah - that’s quite a significant purchase for an apartment dweller.

And that thing is only partly portable. He did try his hand at making a traveling dobs, and we even took it to South Manitou once. That was not a good idea. The viewing would be great, since it’s so dark there, but there’s a lot of setup and adjusting that needs to be done. And it’s a lot of weight that he had to carry out to the campsite. Which meant we had to carry extra weight to cover food and shelter for him. We ended up using the binoculars a lot more than the scope.

My current scope is a challenge to use due to it’s weight. The scope and base are probably 50-60 lbs, that doesn’t include the stand (another 15-20 lbs) or the mount (35-40 lbs). I mostly function with the scope and base because of space constraints. Currently, I have a towel draped on it to keep dust off (yeah, who am I kidding) so that it looks like R2-D2.

From what I can see of the scope I mentioned, 35+ years later… it might be a bit smaller but it looks to be a big upgrade for many reasons. Let’s just say that my astrophotography can use a boost.

Looks like the first day to test out the A/C this year. Gonna be a hot one.

Kyzera, best wishes on the move. Mast, good luck on the house selling.

Pray that it doesn’t break down like mine did on Sunday. But I got my new one installed yesterday.

Of course we are, because while I was mapping out my vacation days last week, this is the one I chose for yardwork. As long as it’s done by dinnertime Thursday, though, I’ll consider it a win.

Garage door once again goes up and down. Replacing both torsion springs should have been exactly as easy as all the Youtube videos implied, but as usual, I made it all at least 50% more difficult than it needed to be. Now that there is once again a direct route from garage to driveway, the oft-delayed garage-cleaning can proceed (barring any additional delay or procrastination).

Cleaning and de-cluttering projects will continue throughout the summer, as I finally divest myself of the ex-wife’s abandoned belongings. It’s been nearly ten years since she moved out, and three since the split was made official and final. And the kids aren’t wrong when they told me if she really still wanted any of it, she’d have gotten it by now.

It did finally make its way into my possession, it was just weird to be completely blind in its regard. The only update I managed to see was that it was still a few states away five hours after its delivery time.

Always a minor setback somewhere, but at least I can get things rolling again.

It was much more tolerable this morning for our walk. It was about the same temperature, but the humidity was way down, and a nice breeze.

And the “Strawberry” Super moon was shining brightly.

And while most of the Midwest is sweltering, there are winter storm warnings in Montana. I’ll gladly trade.

And I just saw that Yellowstone has been closed to all visitors due to unprecedented flooding through at least Wednesday.

The water under-cut the roads in some locations. Trying to drive in would result in white-water rafting.

Runs around frantically searching for boxes!!

Closing just moved up to 24 June 2022.

I need boxes!!!

No Costco (or even Sam’s) in our area.

We have bought some boxes already from Staples, so will probably have to get few dozen more from them.

Thankfully we are vastly downsizing and will not be taking very much with us. We are having a dumpster delivered Friday so we can clean out the clutter.

Never put off today what can be postponed for at least another week.

Try your local fast food joints - fry boxes are plentiful and all the same size.

Target used to give away boxes if you got there early and asked nice. I’m not sure if they do anymore.
