[CS Lounge] Caffeine, Snacks, and a Warm Fire

We have Firehouse subs which I enjoy. They are in process of building two Wawa in our city, one fairly close to our end of the county.

I prefer Wendy’s fries and burgers (for a chain restaurant). Zaxby’s is really good for wings and tenders.

We have a fair amount of restaurants in our area. Most are brick-n-mortar, but we do have quite a few food trucks. I haven’t tried our new Chipotle yet, but I don’t think it differs that much from our Surchero’s.

It’s not really a fast food joint. But Donna’s Diner in west Edmonton is freakin great. I can get a Reuben sandwich there with so much meat and sauerkraut i literally have to unhinge my jaw to take a bite. There food is so good.

I love Jersey Mike’s. I live near the headquarters and love their philly cheese steaks.

They’re legitimately flame broiled: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/GSuLWkBt5MI/maxresdefault.jpg Incidentally, that broiler needs some detail cleaning beyond the daily work - the scraper blade on on the front gets that dirty from daily use, but that chain drive shaft (and frame) is a little more built up that I’d let my crews get away with (back when I was running a store).

Day shifts are almost always better than evening crews. But even before I left in 2015, it was hard to get solid crews. McD’s absolutely has better overall quality and consistency. Plus, they have the “steak,” egg, and cheese bagel. Yummy.

But when BK’s food is fresh (and you can ask for fresh product), I think it’s better tasting. And sausage, egg, and cheese Croissanwiches are great (better than a muffin or biscuit, but not a bagel).

My mom ran a BK back in the day. I remember the story about a lunch rush where she yelled to a team member to drop some more whoppers. At that second, the flame-retardant powder dropped from its holding place and covered the entire store and everyone in it with white powder. I had to come in and help clean it up. Took days. What a mess. :hamburger: She could never get herself to say “drop some more whoppers” again after that.

I got the curtain for the linen closet. It is not white! It is some sort of very light silver grey tint that does not match at all with the rest of the whites.

Louvered folding door removed and now to figure out how to trim the bottom. I notice now that it is off, that I am not the first one to trim it! I just have to figure out how to safely do it. I have tools, but I am terrified of power tools because the noise sets off my sensory issues. If I plan this though and use ear plugs I bet I can do it. Maybe. Probably.

Just going to have more coffee for now.

Sandpaper. Lots of sandpaper. Or noise cancelling headphones. My husband has a pair for lawnmowing that plays music too.

That IS an option. I even have an orbital sander and ear plugs. I need to take off around 1/8th of an inch though…or up to 1/4. Stupid uneven floor.

Weather is nice today…and I have 80 grit discs for the sander. Hmmmmmmmm. I COULD go outside and try that before resorting to saws. Otherwise I was going to clamp a piece of wood on to it as a guide bar and use my circular saw for the first time…

Your idea is safer.

It actually is still throwing me for a loop just how much nicer it got in a downright hurry. If it wasn’t so muddy out I’d already start trying to do some outside stuff.

Be safe tackling that closet!

It’s not mud season here yet. We need a few more warm days for that mess.

That stuff gets everywhere in an instant. But it puts the fire out.

Got a call one night while I was babysitting the hood cleaners from the hood cleaners at another store. The overnight maintenance guy was cleaning fryers while the hoods were off. The heat set off the fire extinguishers over the fryers. The maintenance guy panicked and left. So I had to wait for the cleaners to finish at my store, then go to the other store, babysit those cleaners and get started on cleaning up the mess.

You can do outside stuff sort of! Planning!

  • Draft up the dimensions of your containers/beds. Where will they be? How much sun does each spot get per day?
  • Water supply? Do you have the outside water and hoses you need?
  • List what you want to grow and how much space each takes.
  • Next to each plant type note when it should be planted inside (seeds) and outside (seedlings or direct sow).
  • List what you need for supplies to buy - compost, potting soil, sand if you have heavy clay, insecticidal soap or neem oil (organic pest control), support structures for any large plants like tomatoes. Tomato cages are cheap but tomatoes get HUGE depending on variety. Pots, saucers under them, etc.
  • Mark out the space for any in-ground beds and cover with cardboard & weights to kill the grass.

That will keep you busy for a week and you can start getting your supplies together. Here it is time to get any seedlings going inside if I want to do that. SOON.

HoA, I take it?

In ‘n’ Out has better fries.

The Castro Valley BK near me is abysmal. Getting one sauce packet for an order of 2x12 fiery chicken fries is pathetic. Getting both the evil eye and side eye for asking for more sauce is cringe city. I guess it’s a good thing they’re so terrible, really, since that means I’ll just get panko breaded chicken nuggets from Costco and have tastier (and less unhealthy) chicken that way. Which reminds me, I need to add BBQ and sweet & sour sauce to my shopping list.

*Makes more deviled eggs and puts them in the lounge fridge*

Mmm…num nums.

I don’t trust non-chain specific delivery (e.g. uber/doordash). I’ve neither heard good things about them nor have I seen good things on the times family has ordered that way. And as someone that is immunocompromised, the fewer hands that touch my food the better.

You can salvage roast beef by soaking it in au ju and making cheesesteak style sammiches. Now I want some…

If you only need a small area trimmed and don’t mind some elbow grease, you could use a wood planar and/or sandpaper tool.

I’ve got a pair of really sturdy sound dampening earmuffs (they’re solely for blocking sound). I actually use them more when I need to sleep in my recliner chair but my grandpa is still up watching TV or wants to talk on the phone. I can just put them on and I’ll hear virtually zilch. I also use them when using the leaf blower as even with my hearing loss that sucker’s loud (and it isn’t even a gas powered one!).

As for fast food:

McDonalds: Cheapo burgers to fill the void. Spicy Deluxe McChicken - beats Jack in the Box’s spicy chicken sammich hands down.

Jack in the Box: Curly fries. Loaded tiny tacos. Breakfast items any time of the day.

Carls Jr./Hardees: Big Carl.

Wendy’s: Frosties and spicy chicken nuggets. Their burgers are gross.

Taco Bell: Grilled cheese burrito as stand in for the quesarito since I loathe using apps to order because I hate being tracked at a personal level. Chalupa supreme and nachos bell grande rock (bring your own sour cream though - they’re stingy with that!)

Subway (no Jersey Mikes out here): Italian BMT and meatball sub.

Arby’s: Roast beef & cheddar. Roast turkey ranch & bacon sammich. Jamocha shake.

In ‘n’ Out: Better burgers than even Rally’s (SoCal chain). Beats McD’s fries. Customizable up the wazoo.

Sonic: Shakes, shakes, and more shakes. Just as customizable as In ‘n’ Out’s burgers.

Dutch Bros: 911 freeze. Banana split freeze. Banana split 911 freeze. Ninja (mint) freeze/shake. Ninja 911 freeze. I load up on eight mix/match + one for on the way home. Once home I freeze any I’m not drinking that day.

Technically, I hadn’t been to bed yet. 3 am is my normal night night time.

Happy patch day, everyone!

That’s a good idea! I’ll start plotting that out now that it’s not a horrible cold, snowrainy nightmare realm.

Aaah, stuff to do! It’s exciting!

I can’t even imagine staying up that late anymore! I used to be able to pull that off but now I’m looking at the clock, it’s around 9:30 PM and I’m already nodding off.

I may have lost my gamer energy somewhere along the line. :stuck_out_tongue:

I prefer sleeping during the day and being up at night when I can swing it. During the night I can keep both eyes open relatively easily whereas during the day the bright light forces me to hold my right eye shut since without a lens it’s super sensitive to UV light (hence why driving during the day means I have less distance capability as being in the sunlight long enough means I get massive headaches and even migraines).

Smashburger has decent burgers (I’m not sure what the smashing adds to the experience) and really good fries, tossed with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil. They also have crispy (lightly fried) Brussels sprouts that I quite like. Unfortunately, their location near me closed a couple of years ago, followed last year by the next closest location.

So glad I’ve gotten into the habit of bringing my own.

My dad’s the same. He will have McDonald’s once on his annual road trip.

They’re my favorite sandwich shop, as well (I usually order the Big Kahuna cheesesteak). My roommate says Firehouse Subs is also really good, but I’ve not tried it yet.

I used to have a schedule like that! I worked as a cleaner for banks so I was up all night and slept all day, with classes after waking up at around 5 PM. It was pretty nice while it lasted.

Certainly didn’t have to drive with the sun beaming all it’s fury right on my face…

Mine is Tubby’s Submarines. That’s a local chain, I think. Jersey Mikes is a close second.
