[CS Lounge] Caffeine, Snacks, and a Warm Fire

On that topic, regardless of whether you’re on Team Red, Team Green, or Team Eww (Arc), you should go into gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows updates and enable that one. This will prevent Windows from downloading out of date graphics drivers whenever you try to manually clean up or reinstall a driver.

They “open sourced” it with a license that wasn’t actually open source and was technically illegal to force on users. You can still get the source, but yeah, they messed up on that.

See above, because Windows updates themselves will normally override that setting unless you edit the group policy mentioned above.

Windows Update?

I got that turned off, and I chose which update to update when available.

That’s what I heard, some new company picked it up or something and was like, “Hey, remember this???” Heard nothing but bad things about it.

Unless you’ve both disabled Windows Update via services.msc and disabled the WaaS Medic service (it revives Windows Update if it isn’t disabled), Windows can still update on its own. Ask me how I know this after having to stop Windows updates on my dentist’s workstations so their x-ray drivers wouldn’t get munged…

Aaaaand FedEx just notified me that my IKEA table will be arriving tomorrow instead of today. When I’m going to be in San Francisco at UCSF. Bleeeeeeeeeeeh.

Oh, what I did was just stole the Deviled Eggs off Mirasol and offered it to Windows to never update again

Jokes, there is options within the Windows settings to chose to manually download and update for which update and drivers.

Yeah, I used to use that. Until it decided to ignore the setting.

:woman_shrugging:

I haven’t had that problem yet. Maybe I am just lucky.

The only issue I have with windows, is not having that option to place the taskbar somewhere else on the screen… Like how we used to be able to do it with Windows 7 and prior.

Please refer to the original post in the thread especially the part where Vrak is quoted. The CoC is upheld very strictly here.

Heh. Windows Update has never liked me.

I know you can still do this on Windows 10, but I’ve heard that Windows 11 is bottom/center and is highly…unconfigurable in that regard. Given the one good, one bad cadence both Apple and Microsoft have with their OS releases, Windows 12 can’t come soon enough.

Just take some more devilded eggs out of Mirasol’s stash, and offer it to Windows. :joy:

Oh, can have the taskbar icons on the bottom left. What I am talking about is having the taskbar along other sides of the screen or having it on top.

Hey! Those were mine! Not that MS would care. It lives to update and updates to live. There is no stopping it.

I need those eggs though.

Panda may share some though…she may also need some.

/Refreshes the coffee vats

Please ignore any gnats or other distractions.

Mine mine!!!

My Win 11 looks pretty normal to me. Icons along the bottom left…etc. I probably set it up to look Classic though.

To be fair… It truly seems like you are trying to get a rise out of the other forum users. I offered you a heads up. Your account could be actioned. And I honestly wouldn’t want to see that. :disappointed:

I remember getting Windows 8 to look exactly like Window XP. Maybe I should see if anyone has managed to do that with Windows 11.

No way. I’d rather she gets the deviled eggs. Why waste them on a monster like Windows Update?

You can still do that in Windows 10 at least. 11? Not so much.

I was going to quote the first amendment. But to be honest I’m not trying to argue with you. I was honestly offering you some advice that may help you out in here before the blues decide to get involved.

So, with that. I wish you the best. And good luck in your future gaming endeavors.
