Spring is a myth. It goes from Winter, to soggy wet for a week and then hot and dry.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

2 Melting but then refreezing ice
3 Snow
4 Wind that hurts face

Interesting. Worth at least looking into. What food was it, if you don’t mind me asking.

I would do ANYTHING for my kids.

After speaking with the psychologist today (was just a parent meeting so she could feel out our concerns) it sosunds to her a lot of it revolves around self image and self esteem. I am deathly afraid that I am somehow responsible. I am carrying a lot of guilt on my shoulders this afternoon for my quick temper in the past and 0 to 100 yelling when my children would act up. I have changed, but I am mortified that it is too late, and I Have done irreparable damage to my babies psyche.

We have some sessions booked. She starts with just him and will bring me (most likely I have a fluid schedule mom has a more rigiid schedule) in towards the end to talk about things. We will go from there.

I just want what is best for my kiddo. I don’t care what it takes to achieve that.

In other news, waiting on the tow truck to come and get my car. Been sitting in the garage for about 9 months. It has a siezed axle bearing that I know about, as well as a blown axle seal. I hope that is all that it is haha. Just had to wait to have the disposable income to fix it. I need muh car back. Been borrowing an extra from a family member, but it is not the same. Not even close.

It’s an odd one. I’m allergic to peppercorns. That includes white pepper (mainly used commercially), black pepper, pink pepper and pepper oil. It means I can’t eat most pre-processed food. That includes all processed meat except ham. I can’t eat anything from KFC because of cross-contamination of my allergen and I need to be really careful everywhere else. I read quite a few ingredient lists and have talked to a number of manufacturers about if their “spices” “herbs” or “natural flavors” contain pepper or pepper oil.

Wow, black pepper is a staple seasoning in my house too. Interesting, had never heard of that before. I imagine you have to be VERY vigilant about what you purchase when trying something new.

Definitely. It is an odd allergy. It’s not one that gets listed on labels because it’s not one of the top 10 food allergies that account for over 90% of food allergies.

I wasn’t suggesting that he might be allergic to pepper. Food allergies can produce a fight-or-flight response. That is what can trigger temper issues.

Oh I know you weren’t. But it did open a line of thinking I had not even considered nonetheless. And I do appreciate that.

Perl is wearing a pretty transmogged dress now  Thanks to those who gave ideas on how to make a little gold too!

I might pick up a few more items to t-mog and let my daughter lend a hand with picking out some looks. Things could get ‘interesting’!! Haha!

That’s the sort of far reaching allergy that requires a lot of research, more than you’d expect if you hadn’t had to do it yourself.

A family member is allergic to corn. When you consider corn starch, corn syrup, most white vinegar, and any ingredient list that includes; Dextri-maltose, Dextrin, Dextrose, Fructose, Glucose, Glucose syrup, Cereal starch, Modified starch, Vegetable oil, or High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) there aren’t many processed foods left.

Pepper has to be a lot like that.

While they were still trying to find her allergen they gave her antihistamines to help control the symptoms, the filler used in the antihistamine pills was (of course) corn starch. The antihistamine pills caused an outbreak of hives over most of her body including the soles of her feet.

Welp. Officially diagnosed with a (small) hiatal hernia and gallstones. Whee. :c

Some people have all the fun.

I am allergic to yellow #5, green peppers and aspirin. Those three things have the same chemical makeup. I have it, my kids have it, my dad had it, my sister has it. Also our relatives in England have it. It’s amazing how much food is dyed yellow.

Hope everything works out for the best. I went through a tough time with my son just over a year ago. After 2 involuntary trips to the ER in the back of a police cruiser, the doctors got him on some meds that have helped him a lot. He told me he feels better now and he’s trying to get his life back on track. It’s not easy being a dad, but it’s harder being a kid these days. I try and support him as much as I can.

Fun fact:

In the 1970s Red Dye No. 2 was used in everything from sausage casings and ice cream to makeup.

It was banned by the FDA as a “possible carcinogenetic” based on a statistical link between the dye and cancer found in tests by Soviet scientists and confirmed by the FDA.

Although Red Dye No. 2 was never linked to any deaths or illnesses when the substance was banned from U.S. shelves in 1976 the Mars candy company pulled red M&Ms from their lineup of colors, even though red M&Ms had never contained any Red Dye No. 2 to begin with. It would take 10 years for the collective panic to fade — and for the M&M spectrum to be complete.

So my personal connection to all this?

As a student at Cornell University my mother in law’s work for her scholarship was as a lab assistant at Cornell’s New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (now renamed Cornell AgriTech) where she did the actual work that produced Red Dye No. 2, a project initially intended to find a maraschino cherry dye that wouldn’t bleed off onto the pears in a fruit cocktail.

I remember that. well not thst perse, but when j was a wee one my mom would check the toilet paper anywhere we went. If it had any red we had to hold it if our bidness involved wiping. Luckily that only ruled out half the bathroom for me. Haha.

Big news over here. Something we’ve known about since the end of last year, but was only able to be announced today. Going to celebrate by playing some Tim Minchin.

I did that with my first one. It was the older type, that you pressed a button on the side to “turn” the page. Got to the point that it was “turning” up to 5 pages at once =/
