Cross-Faction Play Would be a DEALBREAKER!

Nah, people are still going to main the faction they want to. You can only play one player at a time on one account. Having a toon on each faction does not magically even it out between the two sides.

True, but that doesn’t mean they can’t at least make it more difficult. It doesn’t seem like it would be too difficult to implement a system in which btag communication was disabled between you and a particular friend when you were online simultaneously on the same Classic server on opposing factions.

I mean in the sense that people are getting angry IRL over it. It’s just pixels.

It has not yet been addressed individually, but I would file it under the “It didn’t exist in Vanilla so it won’t here” category.

They HAVE stated they are looking at securing the issue of using BNet chat as a way around the limitations that should exist in-game, so it’s clearly on their radar and they are clearly not in favor of it.

I wouldn’t worry too much about this.

These servers are going to be around for the long haul, alts are likely to be a key for long term healthy server pops. Not allowing people to ever switch sides without deleting their prior work or server swapping will make the unbalance worse.

They will.

They have - as you noted - mentioned attempting to lock out the BNet features for chat to try and limit cross-faction speak, why would they then allow you to do both factions on the same server when they’re actively trying to circumvent that feature from BNet?

Umm why we are comparing the servers is beyond me the reason you can create both horde and alliance on the same server with the same account is because in retail all servers are consider pve with warmode being the pvp side of things. Before they made the servers this way if you were on a pvp server you could only create a char on one fraction. However many people went around this by having 2 accounts which by all accounts means the accounts are separate so technically they still only were playing one fraction locked on that account for a pvp server. Why would you think blizzard would change that if they plan on making separate servers for pvp and pve.

Even now you still cant chat persay with char in world from the other fraction you can however right click and add to bnet and use the bnet chat servers to talk to your friend on the other fraction.

Because they allowed cross faction on PVP servers before warmode.

Play on a PvE server then. Also, having to server swap is a great way of extending the life time of existing content.

I honestly hope they do but I also see them only using 4 servers for NA, pve, pvp, rp and maybe rp-pvp.
They do not like managing populations or factions. With giant servers they wont need to.

Even though they gave out a bunch of info at blizzcon they really left a bunch of questions unanswered and created even more questions because of their inability to clarify things.
Even when asked specifically about servers and server sizes they dodged the question

I should hope not. If they would go that far to change the game, almost any change could be on the table.

The stated design philosophy is as precise of a recreation of vanilla WoW as possible.

No Sauce, but with how adamant they have been about that design philosophy, I cannot possibly understand why people think that PVP servers won’t be faction locked. That was an enormous part of playing on a PVP server.

There are plenty of third party ways to communicate with the opposing faction, but there is no reason for Blizz to get rid of the faction lock.

I am worried about how they will put the servers together though. I have no problem with them progressively merging the smaller realms as pops fall out, but I REALLY do not want them to rely on sharding throughout the duration of Classic. if they use it for a week or two to ease stress at the beginning thats fine, but I really, truly hope that once populations stabilize a bit they completely remove it as even an option (as in, even under high stress, they don’t try to revert to sharding). Frankly it was pretty fun being a part of server-crashing events.

Right, but using logic we can essentially answer some questions with near definitive accuracy.

This would fall under that.

If they are actively attempting to prevent cross-faction speak using BNet features, then allowing both factions on the same server would literally fly in the face of their work.

Blizzard makes some dumb choices here and there, but they don’t usually work against themselves until the work has been out for a patch or two.

If I get rage-whispers for no reason other than some nerd is butthurt about a video game, I pat myself on the back. They can do that all day long.

They also had cross faction pvp servers for a number of years before bnet chat was ever introduced.

Correct, AFTER Vanilla, and at that time they’d basically dropped their enforcement of cross faction speak.

They are now reinforcing their desire for Classic to have that separation, devoting developer resources to it etc, ergo the conclusion is, I think, fairly solid.

Sorry, but I simply do not see something like this as a legitimate way to balance out servers. Blizzard will have to be a bit more proactive with mergers of servers with severe imbalances to even them out. Attempting to fix something with a tool that breaks other things is absurd. ESPECIALLY when the problem hasn’t yet occurred. Hell the game isn’t even out yet.

This is akin to people asking for cross realm BGs because server imbalance MAY cause long queues (read; more than instantaneous, according to some), even though the game isn’t even out yet.

Some things should have been decided and put on a road map prior to a line of code being typed out. The fact that they couldn’t/wouldn’t answer some questions is troubling.

Trust me i honestly hope i am wrong but they really havent said anything regards to this subject.
When asked about servers and server size they dodged the question.

They have yet to make a definitive statement in regards to cross faction communication other than a repsones to a streamer when he asked and then they only said they were looking at it.
That is what the streaner said and there was no way to actually verify if that info is correct or that they did jndeed say it.

We still dont know if they are going to do xrealm bg’s.

There just seems to be to many unanswered questions to even hypothesize a possibility. Questions that imo really should have been addressed

Oy.

You keep seeing that glass as half full and ignore the facts.
