Craving WoW

So I have had an itch for Classic WoW for quite some time now, but between work and family my play times are pretty inconsistent. You combine that with not actually knowing anyone that plays the game and the amount of time it’s takes to progress past level 40. I’m struggling with staying interested and I end up just making new toons over and over. Mainly because I’m always behind and the world around me is empty. Ive found that hardcore suits my needs up to level 30 but then it feels the population thins out making it difficult to stay invested

Tbh I don’t even know where I’m going with this post. But I don’t have anyone to have the conversation with. I guess this is just a “poor little ole me” post. Is anyone aware of a classic dad or leveling guild that is active? Not too interested in a random guild that just mass invites every character on the realm, I’ve found those to be some of the least social guilds.

Realistically modern retail WoW would probably suit my needs better but everything in retail being so easily obtained I feel nothing when I progress.

What servers / faction are you playing classic era on?

I will go wherever man.

I play on Mankrik-PVE alliance and it is pretty busy. Many guilds clearing content and folks leveling/playing out in the world. Horde is not as big on Mankrik but does exist albeit i think more just end game raiders/pvpers. I could be wrong there.

Also I created this char years back when classic launched but never did much as I was horde then. I came back to it last fall and have been playing ever since. Got to 60, now about to complete my entire 0.5 Dungeon quest/gear set all complete with Guild help etc. Been a ton of fun/progress.

Tubbly also posts good server breakdowns for other communities in this forum.

And here they are

I’m into the smaller realm communities myself, but the leveling pace can be slow and lonely, with it being hard to complete at level dungeons. But they can be done with little pre planning!

Whatever you decide I hope you find something!

If you are playing Hardcore on either Skull Rock or Defias Pillager, you can transfer to the PVP realms as well as PVE realms, not just Mankrik as with Doomhowl. This gives an option to play as much of the leveling experience through a hardcore server, if that’s preferable, and then transfer either upon character death or whenever you may feel like doing so…

As for suitable places to play, Mankrik is (as far as I know), the main server (along with the cluster) for Normal (non-PVP) server players. The Whitemane cluster for PVP.

Having said that, there are a couple of small servers with some activity, though you’ll want to know what you’re getting in to.

There was fairly recently some interest in getting something started on the largely dead server Loatheb. Of note: This was intended as a LATAM server, and died out pretty early on in WoW Classic history.

A couple of years ago, there was a ‘Fresh’ initiative on Deviate Delight, with some posts on the forums making it seem as though there is still some activity (particularly on the horde side).

And then of course there is the long-standing Legacy guild on Grobbulus, which has held out since at least as long as Era has been Era.

Perhaps someone can link invites to Discord servers for Whitemane and Mankrik, or give some info as to when some guilds may be running various content. You’ve mentioned:

If you want to find community, then often consistency is the best way, and finding groups that you can play with regularly, may be a good way to do so.

In any case, good luck with whatever you do decide!

Thank you for the feedback! I’ll be looking into Legacy guild and Mankrik server. Happy playing fellas!!

Playing on Grobb with Legacy has been some of the most fun I’ve had in WoW. They’re good people who prioritize playing what you like.

If you roll there reach out to anyone in the guild for an invite! We can get you hooked up with bags and stater gold.

Hey, turns out I have a 28 ally warrior on that server already. I’ll give it another go over there - Lerien

100% either look at tbc. Or retail. If you think retail is easy then I’m not sure why you would seek challenge on classic? Mop heroic raids are challenging and fun but not era or TBC. Dreamscythe alliance on TBC is a pretty chill environment with actual active people(they actually log in once a day). However I’m not sure if your looking at end game things or you’re just a leveler.

Oh no, challenge isn’t what I was referring to. For example. Hitting level cap in classic feels you have accomplished something while retail it is achieved by design. Also getting gear doesn’t give me any form of dopamine on retail, again it feels handed to you.

Fair but both are achieved by design.

Same with classic. Both just come from existing. The only issue on classic is it’s just raid log simulator. The bosses are all just press 1 button then log off till next week.

At least TBC will have dailys soon. So that’s good to get me to log in.

Personally I feel much more accomplished when I eventually get myth track ribbon off crown vs getting a naxx item that all I did was press shadow bolt on the boss while standing still and it died in 30 seconds.

We’d love to have you in Legacy! Or if horde is your jam, we have a horde guild called The Exiled too. Grobbulus Classic era is a great place to be for those looking for tight knit community, long term players, and who don’t mind (or even prefer!) smaller populations.

I would have to disagree, classic requires a level of effort and knowledge to get to level cap in comparison to retail where it is effortless in a scaling world. I want to say I got from level 1 to 90 in less than 20 hours when midnight released. Give or take a couple hours.

I wouldn’t say they come from “just existing” retail felt that way to me cause I was able to get raid finder ready without ever interacting with other players. Not really seeing how you see them remotely similar.

I do 10000% agree that combat in retail is much more interesting though.

I mean lmao raid finder isn’t mythic. You’re choosing to play the easiest version meant for kids unironically. You need an actual guild for mythic. Having to prog for weeks on end to finally get the boss dead after 200-300 attempts feels good rather than killing every boss first try pressing 1 button.

I press right click on mobs. They die. I get to 18. I do dungeons till 60. Takes like 20-30 in game hours. Then I raid log for every Tuesday. At least TBC and wotlk have dailies and arenas. Although I’m not a big arena fan.

You do seem like a leveler tho. So end game content isn’t something you should be concerned about.

Did you miss the part where I said I wasn’t looking for a challenge? It’s obvious our view points are quite different but “Lmao” and talking down to me is unnecessary. Me being almost 40 years old with 5 kids “200-300 attempts to kill a boss” is the opposite of fun to me.

This is a blatant lie. Your chances of dying in Classic are astronomically higher than retail. And I am interested in end game content but I’m more interested in having a good time with fellow players which mythic+ is more for elitest that I have zero interest in playing with.

I didn’t mean to talk down to you. However when you stated that retail raids were just handing you loot for free then said LFR loot. I did “lmao” because that’s the easiest version and is equal to dungeon gear. While in classic it’s literally the exact same way. You show up and loot is just handed out.

I mean not really. Classic leveling is just as easy. Just get 5 players and spam dungeons just like retail. There is no difference. And yes I understand wanting to “have a good time” however that is different for each individual. Era is a great place is you like slow leveling. TBC/mop is better for classic end game. Eras end game is 7 years progressed and very hard to get into unless you are already naxx geared with good logs or have a big wallet of gold to bid on items.

I wasn’t speaking on the raids I was speaking on getting geared for raids. Having decent epic items handed to you for killing 15 mobs on a world quest is just so unfulfilling. I do realize they are only relevant for a short time but when I see my character is full epic items and it feels like I did little to nothing for them it’s just…. Meh. If that makes sense. It’s definitely a mental thing for me.

Yes it is easy but being slow makes it more rewarding imo. TBC I am interested in, MOP not so much. I do remember loving MOP PvP though. And I have to admit being late to the party is a concern of mine with era.

That’s how classic is. I’ll explain how I got my epics in TBC. I clicked group finder. I clicked join heroic. I went there. I pressed shadow bolt. I got epic item.

Type 2. I went to sw. I bought mats. I leveled crafting. I got full shadow weave and spellstrike legs just sitting in sw. Now I wait till Tuesday to raid.

In raid. I walk in press shadow bolt on boss. Parse a 99 get purple. It was a 15 mob instance.

It seems that the way you aquire gear is the exact same in both classic and retail. The difference really is just what do you prefer. The slow raid log slog or the fast pace more ARPG retail is and in order to get full myth track gear you need to be a sweat.

Everything you just said confirms that more effort is required in getting your gear in classic. Even the crafted item you spoke of required more effort and engaging with the community than a random world quest. This is a MMO we’re playing after all.

just cause the combat was arguably brain dead while doing it doesn’t erase every other step.
