Work orders aren’t cross-faction?
Trade chat has also been totally dead on my server lately. Even the political arguments are gone, it’s weird.
Check your settings. The default is to shut off all global channels. General, trade, whatever. Not sure, how or when they did this, but it has been the case on all of my alts.
The work orders are. The trade chat is not. So you wouldn’t know who to place a private order to.
They are, I tried to politely complain to someone who bricked my crafting order but couldn’t because they were Horde.
I do have Trade chat enabled, once in a blue moon I’ll see an ad in there, but it’s not even close to how it used to be. Off topic discussions are all gone, and people looking for a crafter never get answered.
Sure you would: Word of mouth.
Everybody I know putting in private orders on our server never even met the person, they just found out whom to send it to through word of mouth.
So to be clear your word of mouth approach…
- Relies on a public order, that likely had to proc a better quality so you don’t feel cheated (and recommend)
- Recommending the crafter to a friend
- Your “friend” places an unsolicited order to a player on the opposite faction without communicating with said player or agreeing on any commission or anything
- The crafter sees the order out of the blue and makes the item.
…or… - He declines the order and you have to communicate back and forth via the “notes” section.
And more likely than not, that original transaction happened due to trade chat.
Holy smokes, maybe it’s actually a reason for people to use the Realm forums!

Go to the forums. 
Still an issue, sadly. Transferred from a high alliance pop server to join a cross-faction guild, and trade chat is completely dead on alliance side. Had to bring over a higher level horde alt to get a crafting contact from the horde side trade channel, took about 4 mins once I could access horde trade chat.
Trade chat is alive and the primary means of obtaining crafted gear on many populated servers, contrary to some of the more bizarre posts in this thread.
I agree, this really needs to be fixed.
