Crafting is BROKEN

How are you penalized making your own? Lets do some basic math from my server for making a bunch of rank 1 leather shoulders.

Cost to make a rank 1 shoulder for me ( I farm my own mats ) - 1,250 gold
Lowest I’ve sold them for on the AH - 10,000 gold
Total profit to me for each one - 8,750 gold

Sell 14 shoulders ( kept one for myself ) for 10,000 each ( 8,750 of which is profit = 122,500 profit getting to rank 2 shoulders.

Started selling Rank 2 shoulders on sunday/monday. They sell for 30,000 each and require 1,875 gold of vendor bought items

I’ve sold 6 of them so far ( keeping 1 for myself for a total of 7 made ) at 30,000 each. 30,000 - 1875 = 28,125 gold profit on each one sold.

That means i’ve made 168,750 gold from rank 2’s so far. Add that to the 122,500 I made in profit from making rank 1’s and so far i’ve made 291,250 gold leveling up my legendary shoulders skill. Yet people are still complaining about how mats are too expensive and they can’t make a profit. Boggles the mind. I see zero penalty from making my own.

Actually I find it terribly difficult right now to find any mats available for my JC prof. Just another reason why I haven’t skilled it up. Once the major blitz dies down, maybe then I’ll think about it, but I don’t have time to wonder around the country side for 2-3 every 20 minutes.

No. When I craft something for someone, they provide the mats and they pay me for my time. If they don’t have the mats, they pay the market rate for the mats and they pay for my time. Nobody makes finished goods to sell below cost because there is no need to do that to level the profession. There are daily profession quests that you can do to advance your professions, and you can also advance your professions by breaking down weapons/armor/glyphs/etc for both advancement and to reclaim mats.

If you turn it in for a quest, it serves the same purpose of being an item sink.

Selling at a loss and item sinks are functionally equivalent.

The quest rewards more than offset the item cost. Its actually quite productive. I usually get the cost equivalent back in mats plus occasional rare items, recipes, etc. So it isn’t a item sink. I’m maxed on all my professions and still do the dailies because they are actually worth doing and don’t take long to do.

boxers literally control mats prices by either flooding the market or withholding on it. granted we dont have a finite of resources but the amount of gold botters have isnt finite. so they can easily buy up all the “undercuts” on mats while steadily keeping a supply at their designated price. multiboxing is a huge problem that really needs to be addressed to help fix the ecosystem

It’s opportunity cost, if you’re doing one activity, you’re not doing another. It’s difficult to imagine where crafting at all stages is profitable in a game with a functional economy.

I can try to inflate the market, and someone else will crash it. There’s no multiboxers consortium for price fixing. Buying up undercuts isn’t possible because of the 5% AH fee.

not if someone sells them even 5 g less than what the regular price is. not many really do the who 99 silver trick anymore

lol? people will post at the same price cause of how the AH functions. You don’t even need to undercut to get priority.

which is good for mulitboxers who just go back to sw to unload 1000+ mats at the same time. priority in the new ah is by who ever posted last which is dumb af which is why people undercut to sell off like 10 things fast and easy.

While i agree to a certain extent choosing to max recipies at peak prices when no one can even use the gear for over a month ?

The bigger issue is the disparity between crating costs for different types.

You DON’T NEED to undercut to sell things fast.

The leggo pieces won’t be profitable for a while.
The ranking system encourages mass crafting to level up to craft higher ranks, drowning the market with lower rank items.
Many people are more than willing to sell items at a loss to gain rank-ups.

The Rank 4’s should be profitable, because of the high costs to rank up to that point and the limited availability.

I’ve been making most of my gold from Cooking, and Alchemy atm. Shocking how many people don’t level this prof (cooking) and how profitable it always is every expansion.

Alchemy wasn’t profitable in BFA.

I made very pretty pennys from Alchemy in BFA?

yes you do, if you post an item and then a multiboxer comes after you. that could be easily over 1000 sports ahead of you. so yeah have fun with that

I mean, you’re obviously entitled to your opinion.

For me - I didn’t craft things that I had to buy the mats for (besides the stuff off the vendor for like 1 gold or whatever) & I’m fine with the money I’m making. Frankly, I’m probably one of the people that made money off of you buying up my mats — I can farm my own stuff - no worries!

I’ve made so much off of base gems – Oriblase in particular. It’s shocking to me.
