Last time I checked, the mats were more expensive then the final piece.

Some slots are more expensive that others, due to BIS lego’s.
I believe among leather, legs are the most expensive as it is for bear UFR lego.
However, make a macro and say LF LW 235 piece / my mats / +20k tip.
and if LW is nearby, they will make it for you. That’s free 20k gold. And 20k now is really nothing. IF you’re on Zul Jin Alliance, I will give you 20k lel
I have a leatherworker and I don’t think I’ll ever make more than a few items, let alone getting even a single item to rank 4.

Honestly Angrymama, i have spammed ‘‘LF Leatherworker (235) My mats + tip’’ only to be met with ‘‘I spent 3 million on leveling LW’’ and a DC. It is pure stupidity and selfishness. I cant give you 90k on AH, so i dont get anything? This is not acceptable
I think our guild had one person volunteer for each slot and targeted which piece, to help cut down on costs. No one got every slot. And given that the ones that did rank it aren’t full time crafters, they don’t hang out in cities looking to sell anyway. Much less at a loss. So you’d never reach them with adverts. It might be more productive to ask in Covenant zone chats like Bastion, than city trade chats.

I think if they just bumped up the Heavy Hide drop a bit then the prices would drop down to where the rest of the Vessels are.
You need to understand, crafting lego items is insanely hard to do. Theres around 16 of them! I am a LW, and i crafted just ONE leather pair of 199 boots, and ONE Mail helm. Thats as far as i am going to level lego lw, period. The cost of mats, or the time needed to gather them to craft 480 items, to reach rank 4 is just not possible! Most LW concentrate on just ONE piece to level up, mainly one they need. So the chances of a lw having rank 4 of a certain lego YOU need is near impossible. Even the whales dont want to sink that kind of gold up front to level legos, because the return is not worth the investment!

This is where I’m inclined to assume where most LW crafters stand. OP is looking for a rank 4 item. You can be capped on LW leveling and still not have the rank 4.
Just because one player said they leveled LW, doesn’t mean they had the item in question.

The disparity between cloth and leather is ridiculous. They really need to fix it.
It’s worth shopping the AH for vessels. One day on my server LWs were undercutting each other on bracers and I picked up a 235 for 49K. Two days before that they were 79K. I would have preferred to runecarve legs, but they’ve been prohibitively expensive.

Well I would say first crafting a 235 doesnt level anything. Thats the max rank right now. Perhaps this is just a misunderstanding of how it works.
as a lw when I can craft legendaries I start at rank 1 and can ONLY craft r1’s(190). To get to r2(210) I have to craft 15 rank 1’s first. When I get r2 I have to craft 10 r2s to get re3(225) and then 5 r3 to get r4(235).
You want a 235. So I have to craft 15 r1, 10 r2, and 5r3(or a combination because you actually get “xp” of different amounts).
So to craft your 235 I have to have already spent several million gold to get to r4. Most people ARENT doing that. The people who have multiple r4’s right now were the smart people(not me) who spent the two weeks doing what you said - taking mats and crafting legendaries for free or tips. No one has much reason to make lower rank legends now so you cant do that in a meaningful way. So it is cost prohibitive for 99% of the playerbase to spend millions on one single item, let alone multiple items.
which means the people who CAN make the rank 4 legendaries are actually few and far between.
Per your question - yes if you need a lower rank legendary it makes sense to take mats and tip. Most who can would probably do the same for rank 4.
I dont think thats the problem here. I am guessing you spammed trade chat to try and find someone and no one responded and just assumed it was because they are all greedy. There just probably wasnt one of those people who specifically chose THAt legendary to spent their millions on to rank up.
If you actually had interactions with people telling you to just buy it off the ah I would be surprised. I am sure those people exist, as there are always exceptions, but its def not the rule.
**** to clarify, anything below rank 4 sells for FAR below the cost to make it. So those 15 r1’s might cost me 300k to make, and I can sell them for 2k each.

One problem is that a single profession makes both mail and leather legendaries, and leather legendaries are much more popular. With 6 classes using leather and 2 classes using mail, a lot of LWs are going to focus on ranking up the leather legendaries first.

Blitzkareeg, im reporting an incident where the guy literally told me i was wasting his time with my mats and the tip. Quote: ‘‘I spent 3 millions on the profession, your mats and tips are a waste of time’’ (20K tip). Im not trying to say its easy to level up LW and that i should of been served by now, im saying there is a profound miscomprehension by the crafters of their role in Trade. Trade isnt just AH
Exactly. I asked people to craft enchanted heavy callous hides for a while, and no one cared. I put in 5K gold and immediately people still climbing on top of each other in guild chat. Don’t think this is a “Greedy” problem for no one to take them up on their offer.
Yep. For skinning, its more profitable to sell Heavy Callous hides then it is to sell the items made with Heavy callous hides. Unfortunate, but that’s how it works.

huh…whoddathunkit that players are only interested in gouging other players and that it WASNT actually a good idea in a game with an AUCTION house to allow players ANY control over something as important as gear, lol.
And NOW we understand why SOME have been screaming about gear drops being so easy to get in previous expansions.

I don’t know how much I’ve spent but it’s gotta be 3-4 million gold so far just to get the rank 4s I have. I gold farm, get a million in about a week, spend it ranking a recipe, up, rinse, repeat.
Expensive.
Farming would take forever and a day. Like I literally bought 2000 ore on my Jewelcrafter and got enough Essences for only 8 rank 3 rings. Imagine mining all of that.

I really understand what you’re saying Shans, i get its an investment to get to r4. Im not here to say people should burn their money blindly in HOPE of a demand for LW r4s. Im simply saying there is no reason for people to refuse crafting in Trade with other’s mats. I wouldnt be here it this scenario would not occur to me this week, but it did many times. Many times i spoke to a LW who had the rank 4 helmet and that refused to craft because ‘‘there’s some on AH’’ – while there was gold and mats involved for tip. This is a different problem
I do not remember you specifying this in a post. If that person had the rank4 to make, he/she/they were just a jerk not to craft it. It being a waste of time just does not make sense for a FREE 20K gold.
