Covid talk (keeping up to date)

my apologies, I thought that was what the news outlets were for.

You’d be surprised to know how many people don’t believe the news and you have to remember that every news outlet has an agenda.

and people on this forum don’t?

You’d be suprised.

There is an outdated clip from the period when the medical professionals all didn’t think that masks were necessary out in the world.

Medical science isn’t like the science you learned in school; we don’t know what all the right answers are immediately. Our information changes, so best practices change. Other researchers are on record stating that what we know now about how covid is transmissible was not known when that clip was recorded.

FWIW, that clip of him is from before April 3, the date when the CDC revised their recommendations about mask wearing. Focusing on this particular thing seems more like what people do when they, a priori decide that Fauci must be wrong rather than the chief piece among a mountain of other pieces of evidence that he is not trustworthy.

That’s the thing with great conspiracy theories, they are immune to contradictory facts.

But hey, we’re careening towards the point where we overload medical facilities in Florida, Arizona, and Texas soon.

I’m sure it’s just a hoax, right?

well here you go just straight numbers - as an aside when the protests started just as a reference point the US was having around 25k new cases daily, yesterday they reached over 71k new cases daily.

None of the recent surges in the US have been attributable to protests via contact tracing. They have, however, been attributable to parties, bars, and other social gatherings. And tourist destinations like Myrtle Beach, Galveston, and Corpus Christi.

Unless, of course, the argument is that the CDC is in on the conspiracy.

I find that a little odd because some clusters in Canada have been traced to protests. Although, what we call clusters might not even register there.

Most persons at the US protests have been masked and well spaced. The persons headed to bars are crammed into tight indoor spaces with bad ventilation and not wearing masks.

I guess we get different news stories here, I seem to recall a jam packed building full of protestors in Washington. And I have never seen any pics of US protests being well spaced.

Weird that protests aren’t responsible for it, but cyclists are encouraged to not cycle in groups together anymore, despite masks, and almost every source for training is repeating guidelines to wear masks while training outdoors.

Every race this year has been cancelled as well. This dude in France had to run his marathon on his balcony because they weren’t allowed outside.

I’m not against wearing masks at all, but I do think it’s crazy to say that the protesters weren’t a cause to spreading. Considering most of them were in fact wearing cloth masks.

And i’ve seen many people wear masks improperly.

Washington (the state) had essentially a demiliterized zone, there wasn’t a need to pack a building.

Washington (the district) had street protests.

Anyway, if you go back to worldometers:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Take a look at the new cases by state. Some states that had larger protests are pretty low on new cases, other states that had few or limited protests are spiking very high right now (Texas, Florida).

There will always be some idiots - there were group rides here still going on with people riding in pacelines of 10 people until just a month ago.

And that’s the larger problem, aside from whether or not belief in the danger is politicized (it is, and that’s a shame), younger people still think of themselves as invulnerable. So they’ll do dumb things that people who think they can’t die do.

If protests with masks aren’t an issue, I’ll never believe outdoor physical activity with masks are an issue.

I should add, they aren’t masked in these pacelines.

In fact, I almost never see anyone under 40 around here masked outdoors, no matter what the activity. The crossfitters are some of the worst offenders. Hey, buddy, that mask around your adam’s apple isn’t doing squat.

She also addressed the lack of social distancing inside City Hall, despite the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

“It does (enhance the risk)," she said. "I don’t deny it. The rebellion is still happening. That shows you the complete failure of capitalism as a system.”

The first thing I said in my post was that it’s not a hoax. Trying to discredit someone with that comment when they said the exact opposite is dishonest.
That may play well inside your liberal bubble, but I’m gonna call your BS.

Fauci was commenting on how to deal with the spread of the virus, while not knowing that the virus could be spread? You buying your own BS?

We deserve true, complete, and accurate information. Full stop

IgG and IgM positive testing needs to be included in “new cases” news reports.
The average age now of the new cases is 31 years old. I don’t think it’s too far a stretch that most of those are likely IgG positive only, immune and non-contagious. We won’t know until they include them in the reports.

We had 1000 new infections yesterday and our governor who has openly refused masks has tested positive.

Go Oklahoma! You’re doing it buddy!
