‘Agency’ is the mary-sue of buzzwords. It’s absolute slap in the face to see people use it incorrectly.
The only issue is the locked abilities behind each covenant. Its a horrible design choice and needs to be changed so that you can change between all of the covenant abilities. Let the cosmetics be tied to your choice but not the abilities, otherwise expect a disaster in 9.0 after the first tuning patch.
Its funny right?
I almost think Blizzard does these things on purpose.
They didn’t have to mention these key phrases in the posts today, but they did.
I believe they did to make players remember what they asked for.
Same thing happened with Classic.
They echoed the “No changes” thing in a variety of ways in their discussion about Classic, as if to say “hey now, this is what you asked for.”
Which next to nobody used because they weren’t actually given to us. The gear was outrageously expensive for something we had supposedly “earrned”. And later they introduced “upgrades”, which were exceedingly rare drops.
When someone pointed out that even upgrading the gear fully at that point meant you’d have gear that was already a full patch behind, having spent a lot of resources on it, Ion said, “They’re not for everybody.”
No. Only for people who didn’t know any better.
It’s odd you would misrepresent that as “given”. I don’t remember being “given” pets. I got a pet (same one several times), but the process I went through also does not resemble “given”.
And the idea that they “gave” me the class mount (druid class glyph not usable in no-flying zones and unusable by our low level alts) after the work I put into that is a sick joke on your part, especially considering that I can’t fly a passenger through multiple zones without having them dismounted by phasing half a dozen times.
It’s way fun to have to try to intercept your passenger when they land on top of an elite and try to save them. I suggest you try it sometime. I mean, when you’re not hiding behind a low level.
How is this even remotely the same thing? You don’t pick all the stuff you listed. That was just stuff given to you for being a class. You got a pally set, a pally mount, and PALLY ABILITIES for playing a pally… you didn’t get punished for deciding to back a faction and ignore other factions.
None of this was “given”. We had to earn all of it through rep grinding, questlines, and other chores. People who didn’t do those things didn’t get that stuff.
I think she’s working off a script, because clearly she is unfamiliar with how Legion worked.
And those guilds and raids aren’t ones that are worth being in.
Actually it sounds quite interesting to me.
Different, but also interesting. And some of it exciting. No idea if that will pan out, but it’s too early to know yet. There is still a ton of stuff we Don’t know about SL. And lots of things will change anyway from now until Live. (Always does.) lol
I have a main that will be Kirean, but my second which is my Druid will go with the Druid theme.
Not sure about the others, I may head into them as well, but first my Shaman will do the Bastion theme and my Druid the Druid theme (can’t remember what it’s called. It’s late and I’m tired.)
It’s nice for those of us who do run alts. We have variety and it won’t seem so repetitive.
OP, you’ll take your combo meal and like it!
I may have wanted the wings on my mage…
It looks like I’ll be Kyrian so far though. The ability is just too good in its current design.
Yeah it was given as you played the expansion. It wasn’t something you had to choose is what my point was.
Ah, I see you guys are working from the same script. It tells you to say this stuff was “given” to us rather than earned by completing quests (that wouldn’t have been done otherwise) or other such requirements.
Ask a rogue what they had to do to get that mount.
What we did for the mount was not routine gameplay. We had to actually buy the gear after earning the privilege of buying it.
I guess you guys need to misrepresent that.
I legit don’t think you’re reading the main point of my post…
Fighting words. I PuG tons. I don’t care who I’m with as long crap works. And I don’t want another excuse for people to suck and be judgy. Interestingly enough, on Google trends FFXIV has somehow maintained a pretty constant player base, with the spikes for expansions equalling each other and the population in in between states the same. Where am I going with this? Maybe, just maybe wow’s gradual downward spiral has something to do with poor design decisions and people get fed up.
Reading these forums has really made me despise the term player agency.
As long as my characters don’t have to be a part of the covenant to use its mogs, mounts, toys (typical account bound stuff,) I’m okay with the “lasting choice” element behind covenants. I plan to have 4 plate wearers to throw at each one for a reason.
Eh, we’re just gonna keep at it until it’s like skyrim where the player fully explores every faction with no consequence?

FORCING US TO MAKE A SINGLE CHOICE FOR ALL OF THEM DOESN’T MAKE THE GAME BETTER.
Forcing? You make the choice, based on the one you like the most.
The point of all the add-ins for each covenant, is to make them compelling character choices.
I’m thankful the choice is going to be difficult. I want to make difficult choices that alter my characters abilities and path in a roleplay game.
You know what caused the most “player agency” for me?:
Times like Legion and such, where I just logged in and had constant fun on my 3 characters.
It was the opposite of BFA, because I logged in and said "OH, who SHOULD I play now, I want to do stuff on ALL OF THEM, because SO MUCH FUN! "
Can someone give me a definition yall are using for Player Agency?
I have never seen a definition for Player Agency that falls under “I want everything, with no consequence to my actions picked. I want the best of everything, for whatever I am doing. With no thought needed and no need to weigh long term pros and cons”
People aren’t asking for meaningful choices that effect gameplay, with consequences. (Player Agency).
They want everything, with no real consequence. They don’t want the choices to have any meaning or downside, since they can just be redone instantly.
Just ask for what you want, rather than grasping at a buzzword that isnt exactly what you want.
