Covenant Viability Chart

Looks at chart, then looks at op;

No dk spec wants night fae? Did the meta not read what it turns dnd into and it’s effects? I think this chart is trash bud!

Whoever came up with the Kyrian Rogue ability has never touched a Rogue in their life. One of the most absurd abilities I have ever seen.

Did they buff the hell out of the Kyrian ability for DK? Cause I’ve seen people play around it and it still did no damage. Honestly feels like somebody saw it was a single target ability and thought “Hmmm this must be good since it is single target. Raid viable”

I honestly think this is a troll chart. I also have a feeling it does not take the soul binds into account as well.

They also don’t realize that the Night Fae ability is crazy good for frost too. That Strength adds up real fast with frost’s CDs that also increase strength. Covenants are bad but this chart is just nonsense.

I don’t know who made this chart but it has a lot of bad info in it, I hope nobody is using it to make their choice.

Exactly, please carefully read your abilities, soulbinds and conduits before making your choices. Don’t trust this random chart.

For Rogues it’s dumb accurate.

Yeppers for Rogues it is straight up truth. :+1:

This chart is fake news.

I am still going to want to know what sort of % difference lies between the various choices, especially for my dual/triple spec characters.
Oh, choices! (I can’t even decide on a main)

It lines up with what I know mechanically about the abilities. So I can’t say it’s 100% (there are points I disagree with). But the issues with the covenant abilities are mechanical. Soulbinds and conduits can only paper over that so much. Moreover they are their own massive problem in waiting as the conduits are spec locked.

So you’re saying if they put a duration cap on bone spike of 30s - 1 min instead of “until it dies” it couldn’t be tuned closer to the rest?

Bone spike is pretty broken, especially in PvP, and I won’t be surprised when its nerfed prior to launch.

A cap isn’t going to change the fact it is low energy and can stack on multiple targets at range which generates multiple combo points.

Plus, Sepsis, slaugther and echoing reprimand are all worse to use in a PVP setting because of how clunky they all are.

Most of the theorycrafting I’d seen in PoS was focused around Bonedust Brew or the Kyrian ability, given their interactions with Keg Smash. I could have fallen off on my tracking there.

So this chart says as a frost DK I have no M+ option, As a Resto Druid I have to choose necrolord, my MW monk has no good PvP option, and on my holy priest all the options are good - except the one that makes sense thematically. Resto shaman at least seems to have 2 options that are equal across all content…

  1. not sure this chart meshes with other write-ups for some of these specs, so not sure if BS…

  2. if this is true it sucks

They could but that’s a mechanics change (duration is a mechanic), not a numbers tuning change (e.g. % of AP per sec etc.). That said… they’d need to do some pretty solid mechanics fixes on the other abilities to bring them in line even with that.

The core issue is that for an ability to do well it needs to be/have:

  • Easy to use right
  • Decent uptime
  • Hard to use wrong
  • non-situational

If any ability has all four of those (bone spike really really does) then that ability will destroy the others that don’t satisfy those criteria. It’s why Bone spike is so dominant even if you add a timer on it. The rogue just needs to refresh. The DH Venthyr ability falls into the same category: it’s almost impossible to use it wrong (but you can use it better if you know your priority target).

Not going to lie… this whole situation annoys me a ton because aesthetically I’d rather go night fae on my DH. But I don’t PvP… and realistically, that ability is really best for PvP and not aught else.

Legion was the best expansion with Wrath close to it.

Legion was the testing ground for all the horrible crap that has been plaguing the game. The only reason artifact weapons were loved is because the AP grind came in a neat looking package.
