Well, it didn’t cost gold or other currency, so it was IN FACT, FREE! I don’t know/understand how you thought “free” would mean, you would automatically be maxed out with the new covenant, without having the run the new covenant quests.
How many times did you mention buy in your post? He said we were told we could freely swap. You don’t think that’s even a little bit misleading?
Beyond the costs, which seem inconsequential, the fact remains that we won’t get what we really want or need. We want to be able to swap covenants between bosses. If we did so, we’d lose our anima. That’s at a cost, not free.
You do not need to grind a single thing after swapping. And blizzard never lied, you misunderstood, they said you could swap freely, which you can. That in no way implies you will get to be 100% capped out on content you haven’t even done yet.
Renown drops from every piece of content, and everything else has work arounds, as long as you have completed that story before.
Literally just play the game as the new covenant. If you can’t be asked to do that, then why are you swapping to begin with?

I am personally holding off until I get more information. The question I have is, if I switch from Venthyr to Night Fae, to level Night Fae, can I switch back to Venthyr and still have everything (Anima, followers, renown, and covenant upgrades) I left or will I have to start at 40 again?
no.
if you have 60k anima in your necrolord covenant
and you swap to kyrian for a boss, where you have 0 anima
whe you swap back to necrolord you still have 60k anima
you can even transfer some of that necro anima to kyrian. buy a BoA item for 1k anima that will grant you 1k anima when you learn it. you can drop it in a new covenant, or evens send it to an alt.

Also to add on to this, you can send anima to alts now. Just send it to an alt and then send it back after switching if you need it that badly.

yes.
the only thing you lose are in-progress missions or callings. your anima, soulbinds, conduits, followers, upgrades, etc, are all there waiting for you.
I swapped back/forth from night fae to necro 7 or 8 times last night, cause I was doing comp stomp for necro renown in between doing keys/raid as night fae. it’s fine. it’s great. there are very few downsides.
I lost a calling because I completed one then didn’t turn in. that was my mistake. I won’t do that again.
other downsides to swapping:
your hearth is reset to oribos
your covenant ability buttons have to be re-set up
your soulbind is set to the first one. so you have to re-select if you use one of the others.

Covenant swapping works exactly the same as before 9.1.5. The only change is you don’t have to do the two weekly quests to swap back to a Covenant you previously left.
OP also just found out that hamburger isnt chopped ham.

And you can. Before 9.1.5 going back to a Covenant you had previously left took two weeks, now you can go back and forth whenever you want. Renown and Anima have always been separate for each Covenant, and that is something Blizz did NOT say would be changing.
They never said they were going to let you keep renown levels only freely swap between them without a penelty, which is having to do a couple quests and wait a week to switch back.

Yea I brought this up when it was on PTR and all the Blizzard white knights jumped in saying renown falls from the skies, so easy, stop being lazy, etc. Now the truth comes out how hard it is to “freely” and “without restrictions”.
I have 4 toons all in diffrent covenats, all renown 80 and all did campign. I swapped my mage to new covenant did the 40 renown thing, now I can’t skip campaign, I have no follower table, couple crappy soulbinds, no anima, like being back mid 9.0.
I see all the same white knights already jumped into this thread.
Why would you expect the campagin, table or other features to complete themselves. They got rid of the 1 week restriction on switching. Ofcorse you have to level up renown for the new covenant why would that even transfer over?
Looks like I can be a kyrian arcane mage come Raid day, and back to a venthyr frost mage by Saturday with tea parties come Sunday. I didn’t want to make a whole bunch of toons to experience the other covenants.
I just wish they did this like 10 months ago.
No, you can freely swap. It is 100% free.
But if you want 40 instant renown, you pay 500 gold.
500 gold is 1/3 of a daily calling reward.
500 gold is 1/10th of what you spend 1 night on a prog raid on repairs only.
If people complain about 500 gold 1 time fee, yall just wanna complain for the sake of complaining.
You don’t lose anima. it stays behind. You can even xfer it over with zero penalty. Anima has zero ties to the power level if your character. It only gives you access to mogs. But at 80 renown, you have all mog unrestricted anyway.
In 1 day, on my alt, I got to renown 62. I did the soul quest a few times and got all T1 and a few T2 already completed, along with full renown set.
Sure, I don’t have ALL upgraded soulbinds on my secondary Covenant, but I still get access to Ashen Hollow for raids.
Stop complaining. Grow up.
