“Here” as in the GD forums?
Maybe slightly, in this patch. But in 9.1 all the covenants are working together. It makes no sense that one covenant would exclude you just because you have spent time working for one of their allies.
Short because the story line quests end so quickly?
And they are time gated, in mop and with the new lvl system, i could max lvl a character and still have plenty of quests left.
I’m playing rogue and blood death knight at the moment, and really appreciating how all the covenants are very close. My necrolord druid alt feels bad not having convoke.
If all the covenants were balanced like outlaw and blood, the whole system would be a lot more interesting…
Wait are they still time gated now? I thought they were only time gated at the beginning of the expansion?
But I get your point.
I don’t even mind them all being better for different situations. It’s the restriction of not being able to try and use all of them that makes the system feel horrible and punishing.
Still not because the barrier to change is so large, one is mostly locked onto one until a large enough difference that pushes you to change.
You can’t do like, I wana try venthyr boomy for this dungeon. This week heroic casual I’m going to play kyrian boomy instead of night fae boomy… You can’t period.
Agreed - I actually wouldn’t mind a system where we choose an initial covenant, then when that is maxed out choose a second and so on, with the ability to freely swap between covenants in a rested area.
Sometimes you get this bliz defender who throws in… But you can’t swap your race…
Hello, race doesnt change how you play the game duh.
Exactly this. Many casual players would really enjoy the game more if they could try out the different abilities across the many different content-types.
Plus, it would give players more story content to go through.
Heres how I would have done it…get to renown 40 you can swap back to that covenant without going through the 2 week timegate.
This would be a dream.
Meaningful choice MMO seems like an oxymoron to me!
How so? …
It does to a very MINOR extent - but the point they’re missing is not only the difference in impact, but the fact that covenants are ON TOP of your chosen race and class. You can’t just keep piling on these things and referencing the initial ones as a reason to support more and more restrictions.
You can still experiment. The system isn’t that rigid. Players that adhere strictly to icyveins aren’t going to stop doing that just because they are allowed infinite soulbind or covenant changes. Also, it takes very little time to get a hero up to speed these days. If it really is such a huge deal, the option to level a new hero from scratch to experiment with is largely valid, imo.
To be fair, neither does one ability on a 2-3 min cd
You’ll find people to complain against anything WoW cuz different players want different things.
But covenant is something that you never see anyone defend.
I bet you 10$ that by the end of SL. Blizzard will come and admit it was a bad idea. they don’t do it now cuz changing the mechanic would require to much works.
Except that it does. For some classes/specs it’s a 10% difference in throughput.
