So apparently how units like mr x are created is taking someone with pre existing gigachad genetics and hitting them with a highly dangerous and illegal medical operation with a high chance of failure and they either die… horribly or they become him.

No way I come across this post as I’ve just started playing RE2 as the first RE game I’ve ever played lol. But damn I absolutely love it so far. Just got to the underground Umbrella facility levels.

Should at some point play the very first one it gives you an idea behind what the tyrants aka what mr x is.
Also introduces you to the events that lead to the 2nd and 3rd game.
I remember the idea behind the tyrant was to create a unit of just mighty physical girth that was largely unbeatable by normal people and bestowing it with intelligence and the capability for strategic thinking which was usually their main exploitable weakness.
Their exact terminology was “a controllable bioweapon” so instead of just creating a mindless giant beast that did whatever it wanted they would create a giant beast that they could actually command and control to a degree.
Or whoever they sold it to could command and control it and they were going to sell it to the u.s military.

Also worth noting that since Mr x and nemesis in the third are both technically bio weapons just in physical form like all weapons like that they are subject to uncontrollable mutation.
The trenchcoat looking things they both wear are actually suits that are there to prevent or control their mutations and as their suits get more and more damaged throughout the game they begin to mutate without that safeguard in place.

yeah I picked up on that once I got to the ending before blowing X’s body clean off. Birkin’s fight was annoyingly fun though. 12 hours played so far just from Leon.
Birkin had arguably the more dangerous of the virus’s at the time and definitely the one that granted the most durability.
By all intents and purposes birkin should’ve been dead he got like blasted point blank with a full automatic but once he injected himself with the g virus and adequately mutated to heal his wounds he could basically walk off anything explosions gunshots anything. And ended up hunting down and killing every single member of the team sent to kill him in the city’s sewer system except hunk who had to abandon the research he came there to steal and in the process broke vials of the virus that caused the outbreak above.
The g virus basically represented unlimited uncontrolled evolution. Where as the other virus’s would have relatively stable mutations the g virus would cause its host to grow new limbs, organs and body parts in response to damage or environmental pressures. Where evolution that should’ve happened over decades happened in mere days instead.
