Even if Classic is the official “second wind” or “bail out” tactic, nobody’s going to let Bliz live down the bad mistakes. To paraquote 2002’s attempt at a well known superhero’s villain:
“You’re not dead yet just paralysed. I chose my path, you chose the way of the [mmo]. And they found you amusing for a while, the people. But the one thing they love more than a[n mmo] is to see it fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you’ve done for them, eventually they will hate you. [Especially when you feed them sizzle over steak for years and years.]”
Hopefully people won’t fall for their sneaky plan to give players something they’ve been demanding for years. The only thing more despicable than Blizzard releasing popular games is charging money for said games and releasing them in one of the four quarters of the year.
Don’t be one of the Blizzard sheep by supporting Classic or Diablo 4. You’re just encouraging them to give us more stuff we want and asking us to pay for it. Next thing you know they’ll make 9.0 fun and rich. And no one wants that if it means Blizzard would be successful at something.
Classic is likely to be the biggest MMO of all time. There is no competition in the MMO industry and hasn’t been for 10 years.
The opportunity for an MMO to come out and get 10-20 mil subs is ripe for the picking.
That MMO will be Classic.
I said 10 + million but wouldn’t be surprised if it gets 20 mil. There are many reasons that support those numbers.
A really good MMO should have 10+ million subs and Classic literally blows all other MMO’s out of the water. There is tons of hype, marketing and many people want to try the best MMO ever for the first time. With so many more gamers online now. It will be a snowball effect where everyone want to play.
I don’t see it happening at this point. They’ve got the data, and even without their access we’ve seen just how much interest classic has picked up. They’d be stupid to cancel it even a year from now.
Lol let’s be realistic. At it’s peak I can reasonably see millions of subs once you factor some may come over from bfa. But not 10, but 20 million, literally higher than wow at it’s absolute peak.
In a day where the customers that played vanilla through wolk have families and jobs now and the kids born after 2000 have the attention span the length of a ketchup packet, demanding instant gratification will play an mmo with polygon models. You think 10 million at the lowest is feasible?
You misunderstand. I don’t think that at all. I KNOW THAT IS WHY THEY LOST MILLIONS OF SUBS. Sure, WoD itself caused insane sub drop off, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was them stating they refuse to implement flying and intended to do the same with all future expansions. That move would be followed by the NoFlyNoBuy hashtag, the forums to explode with complaints and why Blizzard stopped releasing sub numbers after doing so for over a decade.
I’m fully aware that Classic had no flying, but in TBC Blizzard opened Pandora’s Box by giving the community flying and contined to for years. You can’t just take something like that away without the playerbase flipping out.
Try not to be myopic and do a little research before reminding someone that Classic had no flying as an argument.
It’d be like me saying the sky is blue as an argument as to why global warming doesn’t exist.
Since there is a release window already announced, the likelihood is very minimal. Currently we are also doing the Beta test which is also another good sign that it wouldn’t be canceled.
However, if a major bug was found, such as characters randomly being deleted or some game breaking bug that would randomly spring up, the game would only really be delayed and pushed from that release Window. This does happen with Blizz, but not for a while.
After last years Blizzcon, Diablo 4 became a larger push for the company. They needed to stop scrapping their progress, get a game scope nailed down, and finish production so they can give players something for this upcoming Blizzcon. While Overwatch 2 is a bit of news, it was written on the walls already. Sales and views are down for Overwatch and they need to give it a better boost. The PvE content for the new game is much needed, specially since Activision Blizzard lost Destiny.
Now cancelling a game that was still midway through production to make room for 2 guaranteed sellers is a wise choice. They cancelled StarCraft: Ghost for similar reasons. Many games get cancelled like this. A company I worked for literally flipped a coin before E3 to announce which title they were going to release and the other was scrapped, both of which were about 3 years into production. They just needed the staff to help push the final product.
This unheard of StarCraft game probably wasn’t the only game cancelled in the past 2 years by Blizz and I doubt it will be the last one cancelled in the next 2 years either.
