The NPC Corma Villard in Wetlands on Era was originally a male NPC. The model of the character has since been changed to female for no discernable reason. I definitely remember killing a man back in the day for this quest.
If I had to guess, it has something to do with the succubus quest chain and its “modern implications.” I too disagree with this change
