Uninstall the game, unsubscribe, and purge all saved data you possibly have (UI backups, addon data, etc). You can even go as far as to call your bank and have them block charges from Blizzard if you don’t trust yourself that much.
The post I quoted is the best advice. Come back when you are engaged in your real life enough to play on healthier terms.
If you need this we cant help you. You would just return. You should probably seek out a Therapist to get treated for your addition. If you are playing something you dont fully enjoy and are paying for it? You are addicted.
I tell you this now the day I quit it will be a simple Click Unsub. Log out. Never Come Back.
I quit for two years. Was the greatest time of my life, I won’t lie.
I came back after a break up, and I need to quit for good but I just can’t bc I have no reason to.
Nah, that honor goes to gamepass. It gives you tons of games for just a sub, and while it’s $17 for GPU ($10 for GP), it’s still the cheapest form of entertainment you’re going to get.
How do you know you are actually addicted?
I’ve had so many people all my life try to gaslight me and convince me I am addicted, but its like… How many hours do you spend on your phone? Watching mindless shows on tv? Etc.
A lot of us, this is our outlet and the thing we choose to spend our time in vs tiktok.
If you quit you’re just going to go waste your time on a different game. I’ve quit many times and I’m a gamer by habit so if I quit WoW I’ll still be gaming
WoW is only a problem if you make it a problem… If the game is not effecting your life in a negative way then its fine, if it is, then you either gota set priorities in your life and maybe still play the game or quit
I would recommend deleting all your characters and throwing the game completely off your hard drive. Cold turkey, so to speak. With an addiction, you’ll otherwise keep feeling the urge to start again.
Ultimately what you need to do is to stop equating WoW as your comfort zone.
Usually when we go through tough or stressful periods, we have our ‘comfort blankets’ like eating a burger, playing a game, sleeping for 12 hours etc…
So what you’re doing is just part of that. There’s nothing shameful with it and it’s actually important for you to feel safe and comfortable, but it becomes an issue when you do too much of it and stop focusing on other areas of your life.
Kind of think of it like you’re telling your favorite teddy bear that you have to spend less time with it from now on so that you can play with the other toys. The toys here being things like your career, social life, other hobbies, fitness etc…
Simple. Quitting the game will not solve any of your problems. Your problems are what you are using playing a game constantly to deflect to. If you are feeling this way, you should probably see a therapist to start working on those feelings of inferiority or self loathing. WoW is not causing your issues. You need to talk to someone and figure out what is causing them.
On a making friends note. You have to get out there. Making friends in the workplace is a great way to meet new people. Also if you like high fantasy, look into gaming shops. There are usually lots of people at those spots looking for people to play games with on different nights. And those groups tend to be very non-judgmental and welcoming to new people. There are even game nights at those places, where you sign up and are just put into groups by the shop to play variety games.
