Conquest rates without wins are awful

I suggested in that end war mode thread I did years ago, that they should bring back assaults like we had in bfa. Have a whole zone “at war” and lots of quests and a big battle that ends with one side victorious and control of the zone. Then it switches to another zone. Use all the old areas too.

Blizz does nothing. Guess they are firing all their employees and using AI now.

Who said random BGs, this logic applies to ranked pvp and the daily random bg rewards.

Sorry, but crate farming and world pvp is deformed brain content. They have an item level requirement set for SoloQ PvP, if they are going to let me in with Blues then I should be able to progress my gear at a reasonable rate.

All of the people that refuse to let anyone gain meaningful progress are why a lot of people give up gearing after they get honor gear, your only two options to gear are awful.

You either farm boxes for 20 hours, it is not even pvp, or you do ranked PvP and lose almost every game and make pitiful progress but at least you are getting ot participate in PvP.

This, this 100%. Playing for 10 hours and barely having 1k conquest to show for it because it was straight losses is a recipe to give up and quit.

The ookers always default to one end of the scale and say “if you get a lot of conquest then you afk” but who said it had to be enough to make people just afk? It just needs to be enough so you are still making enough progress to not want to give up, that is not how it is currently.

On top of that, with how the system is set up now, if you are going to lose you are incentivized to make it a quick loss so you can requeue faster. Feed your brains out and let them cap you just to end it faster, it is more efficient.

What are you smoking? Ive had more wpvp in the last couple months from crate farming than I had for YEARS. Ask around, I run some crate farming groups here and there, and WE DESTROY THE OTHER SIDE WHEN THEY SHOW UP.

Its glorious! And fun. Promoting anti social crap isnt good for the game.

The few times I have tried crate farming the most “PvP” I ever saw was 1-2 random opposing faction playrs just jumping into a 39 man raid to die instantly. All it was was flying back and forth between a few locations and occasionally pressing your hearth to make it slightly faster.

Even if I did end up in one of your groups that constantly has 39vs39 wPvP, I am not sure that sounds particularly enjoyable either. The Framerate would be so bad that I would probably bail because of that alone. That and the flying from A to B over and over is also insanely boring.

Honestly wasnt bad, I saw the lowest at like 30fps with at 5070 ti. We had many many big fights recently. One night we had about 7-8 encounters with the same raid battleing for ZA. It was amazing. Had a lot of fun that night.

The GPU is actually fairly irrelevant for framerates in the situations that cause FPS issues in this game, and I have a fairly old CPU so it really struggles.

Ahh yeh the cpu def makes a big difference.. wish they would fix that. Im on a 11700k no issues. But those fights were great, I like starting a crate group now for the hell of it to fight others! hah!

They can’t fix it, the game runs in ancient cthulu’chimp engine. I have never liked large scale pvp in this game, be it wPVP or Epic BGs, the game just can’t handle it well enough for it to be enjoyable OR I was playing melee to make it even less fun.

Honestly I have to agree, the event system is so bad its causing a lot of issues with the lag on top of other communication issues. Its unreal.

I am of the opinion that if they cant get it to perform properly for most people then they should stop designing content around large-scale anything.

They cant even balance classes…. who are we kidding. This game has zero actual employees working on anything but pve now. They probably throw the pvp stuff to ai now…….

The only thing that even keeps me doing pvp at all is playing 2s/3s with friends, outside of that its always miserable and has no redeeming qualities.

in theory, better players should gear faster, encouraging people to win. however, gear is metered out the whole first half of the season so nobody can gear faster than anyone else.

this is very true.

thats just how it was back when you could gear from losses. the “whys” vary from loss aversion to pure laziness to not understanding that the outcome isn’t chance.

in general, what ive always wanted in pvp is a more level gear playing field. everyone has the same ilvl, easy entry, account wide conquest, conquest gear carrying over from previous seasons, but i basically gave up after asking for this for 3 straight expacs and 12 seasons. the devs really don’t pvp and think pvpers gear for the same reasons as pvers. so we still have our seasonal treadmill.

(seriously, do you know any pvpers who are like “well i’m capped out on gear, be back next season”)

Dunno about losses but Conquest from winning in Rated Game modes does need to be buffed. Or at least as one person said, increased as mmr inflates with the season.

2v2 and 3v3 conquest from wins need to be buffed. I’d say RBGs too but it’s pretty much dead with Blitz. Not sure about buffing Solo Shuffle though.

what if conquest gear didn’t matter in randoms? dont change any of the rewards or the rate we acquire them but cap the max ilevel in randoms bgs to whatever the honor set is for that season.

you’re welcome

I’ve advocated for gear being a minimal issue. You should be able to get pvp gear like boom lets go. The issue is players complain they cant get it faster than others…. which is like dude not everyone can play 20 hours a day, thus why we have time gated conquest caps.

With what we have now, if you have an alt you really gota farm hard to catch up on conquest. Even if you have boxes from another character it takes time to get what you need. I think that they should bring back reforging so you can move stats around with the gear you have. Would limit a lot of oh I need to buy this now, and this, and more this…

I had a gladiator friend named Turtlemilk in tBC that did this. It was incomprehensible to me, as I gear up entirely so that I can hang out in Stormwind. But yea between Legion and Shadowlands Blizzard seems to have figured out a ballpark range of the PvP population that desires things like gear gaps, a sense of progress, or possibly even completion.

Back during BFA and Shadowlands I wrote a long list of all of the different types of PvPers using examples from the BG forums of that time as illustration, I never posted it, maybe I saved it somewhere and could update it a bit.

edit: the role of gear in PvP is like, one of the eight central themes of PvP that I keep seeing on here, along with stuff like “at what point does sufficient coordination become cheating“ or “is it better to balance between players or their characters?“ It’s super neat seeing how people think about all of these topics in completely different ways (and, almost always to their own profit.)

so one guy in twenty years :upside_down_face:. and while i will admit sitting in town in an elite transmog is part of the social aspect that harkens back to the vanilla days of the top warrior of your server sitting in T3 on the bank steps in town, i think people mainly gear in pvp to have the best possible chance at winning as they can. gear is the means to the end goal in pvp, not the end goal itself. if you hit 1800 week 1 or 2 of the season, you can sit in town in honor gear while still wearing the elite appearance.

these days the bigger issue is the lack of rating decay, high end rated players push and then switch to alts because they don’t want a random bad day to cost them 50 rankings.

i know a lot of pvpers who don’t do any story, any campaign, they hit level cap and check out from the rest of the game to focus solely on pvp, they will log in all the time and even in major content droughts when the pve playerbase gets bored and quits, pvpers are still logging in and playing nearly daily.

i think most even have their gear strategy down at this point, most of our seasonal variance comes from class balance, not new trinkets or set bonuses.

You got me there lol, I’m still on Chapter 1, The Light’s Summons. I need to figure out a way to get to the inaccessible zones so I can get the PvP achievements there before the expansion ends.

If I had to guess it’s in the ballpark of 15-40%, and it’s hard to measure because multiple groups like gear progression for different-and-sometimes-opposite reasons. If I had played through the entirety of Legion and Shadowlands I’d probably be able to give a better range.

edit: I like a bit of a gear gap because it gives me a sense of protection in wPvP against people that would otherwise jump me, but are made wary by it. Sadly this has been neutralized by the weird gear scaling for PvP combat stuff though.

The importance of Turtlemilk isn’t that he’s one guy though, it’s that people have a gravity to them. Turtlemilk lead a PvP guild on Lightninghoof named Polymock, we hosted large PvP events from time to time. It gave people an expectation of a future on Lightninghoof. With his departure and absent this expectation a small part of the PvP community started transferring to Wyrmrest, Emerald Dream, and Moon Guard. In the same way WRA Alliance has eroded; slowly, and then all at once.

It is OK to take a calculated risk and change PvP gearing. It may attract new players, it may not lose so many previously happy players, and it may prevent players that are unhappy with the current system from leaving. It can be difficult to intuit what Blizzard is looking at and why they’re making the decisions that they do.

I have a super secret wPvP addon that accidentally has measured this lol. PvP characters play about 3.9% more consistently than the combined RP/PvE playerbase of characters. There’s lots of ways the data I have could lead to incorrect assumptions though: as it tracks characters and not players, perhaps PvP gearing incentivises PvP players to stick to their geared characters, thus making them show up more often in the data, etc.

I believe this because when it aint raid day or when they arnt locked out my PvE guild NEVER logs on. If blizzard understood the untapped playerbase they hsd for PvP and they capitalized on this they would hsve subs shoot thru the roof because PvP is so accessible and sl easy to get into once you start it and it aint got any of that RNG gearing nonsense
