Confused about possible censorship

Feels like the real moderation is done mostly by the players which means it can be manipulated by it as well.

I’m not talking about “more” moderation. “More” isn’t inherently a problem.

I’m talking about flat out BAD moderation. Moderation that is lazy and sloppy, that doesn’t take into account any context, that relies almost entirely on just looking at # of reports and someone else fixing it if they just 100% screwed up and actioned improperly which does seem to happen pretty often.

… and… I’m talking about how there’s no system for rectifying those problems.

I will say that they are still tweaking things, and looking at what is best of the community and Blizzard. There is a lot they can tweak on the back end. For instance they have already raise the amounts of likes and flags that can be given for all trust levels.

Really? I must be very profligate with my likes then, because I always run out.

It is the system we accepted… people don’t complain when things slowly start to creep up on them only when the trap is finally sprung do they feel the sting of it.

Its a brave new world. I wish it wasn’t but you must adapt to the situation rather then hope it adapts to you.

Same my Tauren friend… same…

I don’t know if that’s true it just means enough people flagged it to get it greyed out. Does upvotes cancel out people that flagged it?

Is it bad that I noticed the increase in flags? LOL

The good news is I keep running out of likes and only a couple of times out of flags.

This has been an interesting conversation. Thank you.

My concerns regarding moderation are fairly simple, to be honest. It comes down to a few questions.

• Is moderation exclusively based on what Blizzard does or does not feel is appropriate for their forums, or is there a sort of checking process involved where the community has some sway over moderation?

• If moderation is based exclusively on what Blizzard does or does not feel is appropriate, how clear can they become about those expectations without opening the door to unnecessary argument? Are those discussions happening?

• If moderation is in some way swayed by the general tone and/or desires of a community, what efforts are or can be made to more closely align with a place that works for most users and Blizzard themselves?

It felt a lot like the community had more sway on the previous forums – things that were technically spam but were good avenues for community-building were permitted. That doesn’t seem to be the case on this forum platform, and I am unsure if it was intended to be the case previously but was stymied due to insufficient tool functionality, or if it wasn’t intended and something has shifted, or if, as I suspect, the tools have made it more efficient to address issues and as a result, things that weren’t issues previously are becoming issues presently.

Lastly:

• If moderation is intended to never take into account community tone/desire, then it would be appreciated if that were stated. We aren’t permitted to discuss moderation, but if community tone/desire are something taken into account then, while we still should not discuss specific moderator actions, the overall course of moderation should be something we can discuss openly.

So it’s been I don’t know how many posts because they aren’t numbered anymore, but nobody’s mentioned spell batching since the 5th one or so. Did anyone ever explain why it was a good thing or removing it was a bad thing?

Because spell-batching wasn’t the actual concern of the thread. Spell-batching is pretty much a non-issue for the current client, so it’s coming up only in discussions of Classic, which is a separate forum.

On the side blue scroll bar it will tell you what post you are on. If you are on mobile it will be in the little blue box at the bottom of your screen. You are post 109…

The concern was never for the current client it’s for the classic client sorry if I left that out.

And yes I am confused as to how a company that’s supposed to care about their playerbase and the quality of their games, is now censoring people when we post to where their twitter team and their reddit team directs us to because that to me is counterproductive.

And before someone asks yes the evidence is clear that there was censorship happening on the part of Blizzard employees in these forums and this evidence exists because websites log what happens all over the net including these forums and the older forums. So it was captured and someone is lying.

These days everyone is offended by everything.

Huh, calling people names. Boy I can’t imagine why that got flagged for trolling. What’s this world coming to when you can’t insult people on forums that have rules against that?

Gee, I had no idea. Thanks for enlightening me.

I’m sure I have seen those posts about petting Druids and Gnomes being offensive somewhere… lol

The spell batching thing seems to have boiled down to he siad she siad finger pointing.

Seriously, the evidence proves that it’s true I suggest you take the time to look at the evidence lest you tarnish your own name in the process of brushing aside the facts. The facts show that it is indeed a wrongful ban, that someone at Blizz is lying, and that the person banned was banned because they disagreed with Blizz on an easily fixed issue on the classic servers so that PVP is preserved.

To be honest, the forums were a lot of fun when you could call out other players on them, back when there were realm forums. You’d find actual conversations between people. Now they’re just dominated by a couple topics like WE WANT FLYING or BFA SUCKS.
