Lol, Venthyr/Kyrian are the top ones for at least Blood DKs depending on content. Maybe Unholy ones are choosing Necro because it is the best for them, but I am Blood/Frost, so I choose based on personal preference. Infact, the only covenant that the best one and the theme match for the class is Night Fae and druids.
Don’t pull the “best covenant” argument unless the covenant really is the best for the content you are doing, Necrolords is not for DKs, it is good of course, but Kyrian/Venth are better unless talking about PvP.
While rune blades and forging may be a story element with Necrolords, I don’t see why there can’t be forges that are themed around each Covenant for the explicit purpose for DK’s to use.
It does really cement that not only are Neco DK’s strong, but also the most convenient now.
for blood dk, the best covenant is Kyrian, solely just because it has an ability that’s specifically tailored to tanking through Pelagos. However if someone is playing blood dk who doesn’t raid seriously or push M+ keys, necrolord is the best.
As for frost dk, Necrolord is bis for most situations for all 3 usual frost builds… dual wield breath, dual wield obliteration, and 2H obliteration, but night fae can edge it out in long encounters with lots of min/max (i.e. mythic raid)
It would be odd to see a runeforge for a dk in the Night Fae area… I’m sure given enough time I might be able to sketch up something… but just would feel weird. The zone itself and the people just don’t give me that “DK” feel. I definitely see it with the Necs, the venthyr I can see it because of the blood spec abilities… the Kyrian because of the DK’s strength of purpose.
I just don’t get a instant inspiration around the Night Fae thou.
it wouldn’t need to look like the traditional runeforge. it literally can just be a ardenwield themed forge that can double as a runeforge (a forge usuable by DKs).

“Gee whiz, fellas! I really appreciate you all waiting on me for the past hour and a half while I put a new runeforge on my weapon! Are we ready to pull?” you have been removed from group

/fly to Maldraxus
Use Runeforge
/fly back to Nathria
“Alright, thumbs up! Let’s do this! LEEEEERO-” you have been removed from grouo you have been kicked from guild
“Aww shucks, fellas!”
But the question is can they use it to rune their weapons? if yes then that’s a added advantage to push one specific class into one specific Covenant, whether it was there for them or not is irrelevant.
Realistic Best Case:
Hearth Kidneystone to the Covenant
Use Runeforge
type “1” in raid chat
browse youtube on 2nd monitor as you wait for the warlock to stop being lazy.
get summoned and start encounter
top the DPS meters “Aww shucks, fellas… didn’t mean to embarrass you all on the meters!" you have been promoted to guild officer
I was just thinking… when was the last time I used runeforging… I only use it when I get a new weapon… other than that… the ability hides in my spellbook because it’s so irrelevant to use.
I’m not sure if the op is trolling. It’s a nice thing to have sure, but largely irrelevant.
Unless you’re already at the seat of the Primus then just using the death gate is faster.
It’s like if you would pick mage instead of your favorite class because they have an Oribos teleport. Which is nice, but everyone else have a hearthstone already or a portal at Orgrimmar.
Just very weird priorities.
