Coming back to classic era WoW, and it's depressing

Yeah, though one could probably argue that since I got all my gold from GDKPs that it was probably purchased by someone at some point… but then the argument can easily be extended to AH so I just choose to not worry about it.

What I do care about is that my years of playing Era have been enjoyable, and even more so my account in a position in which it becomes increasingly easy to level / gear alts and purchase services from other players.

That’s one part of Era that many returning / retail players seem to miss, the longer you play the more ‘value’ your account will have and the more you will be able to do in-game. It isn’t like retail in which every few quarters the game resets and everyone is even again (outside tmog items - which areimmersion breaking in themselves).

While technically true, GDKP is not the problem, the problem is Blizzard not banning buyers, and the gross gold values on a server really dont matter much, what matters is that you’re able to have a stable economy.

Actually sounds nice, though it’s not as dead as some might think. I find it more akin to a difficult RPG with some MMO Elements the way I play it. I’ve been running a Paladin on the Alliance and a Warlock on the Horde, as to best experience Classic at a slow pace.
Sure, I could be in Cata but, I’m tired of the breakneck speed everyone goes, and I’m tired of being left behind. I should enjoy the game for what brought me to it: It’s world and it’s story.

Stop coping and start getting that gold. Elemental air and elemental water probably have a good gold farm once you hit ~37. I mean think what you are describing might as well be the badges added in tbc. And we might get badges in sod, already have wild offerings mark 2.

you can even make HEAPS of gold simply selling greens you get while leveling on the AH, enchanting mats just from DE and any kind blues you may not need that drop. You can also pick herbs or mind nodes; they are PLENTIFUL right now, and you can make tons of gold simply doing that.

Getting gold in Era in a legit way is easy, and frankly no idea why people would ever buy when its so easy to get.

I think people buy gold because the see their character in Era as needing to reach a specific goal (ex. full t3 w/ bis weapon).

Thus, they find that buying half a mil gold is easier than spending a year going through different gear sets, from casual to more focused raids, etc.

But it turns out that the journey is what makes the destination valuable.

People who buy gold probably tend to quit after they get their items because they skipped the struggles and didn’t make the friends along the way that a person who actually plays the game will make.

i am super casual alliance mankirk. i get a kick out of helping people run lower level dungeons, for free. i can easily run people thru deadmines, stocks, sfk, bfd, wc, gnomer and sm graveyard. the only request i have is that they follow me and do all the looting, and since its free, they keep the loot. i dont like running for afk’ers. its too boring. i can help with higher level dungeons than sm graveyard, but would just join your group. my mage who does this is 59

if interested, just let me know here and i’ll give you my mankirk name and time to start

Yup, its 100% the ride not the end that matters

My experience has been very different and much more positive. I’ve never boosted, I’ve never bought gold, I’ve never done GDKP, and I’ve never felt pressured to do any of those things.

I’ve been leveling some new characters over the last couple months, and I’ve done lots of dungeons and have had no problem making gold for mounts/gear/etc on the auction house. I like Mankrik cluster as it is now.

All of these proposals sound like plans for a new seasonal realm, which is fine, but what about the players who want to play Era without all that? Do we lose our game (again)? Do we have to go back to private servers? For what? The players who would be lured back by new cosmetics and new currencies will be gone in two month’s time anyway.

Keep in mind that all of those new systems would be crafted and delivered by the same folks who’ve been handling SoD. I don’t think many people from Era are looking at the self-immolation going on in the SoD community and thinking, “Yes, I’ll have what they’re having.”

I don’t think it’s very realistic to expect to recreate 2019-2020 hype, which was a perfect storm that was many years in the making. I also don’t think it’s appropriate to go into Era with the expectation of instant gratification and 2024 retail sensibilities, or that there should be a way to make this version of the game appeal to everyone.

Blizz went with “Classic+ like” seasons because they didnt want to have to put out fresh servers every 5 minutes - and probably because they are exploring an actual classic + for the future - but for then and now, they don’t want to have to be making clusters every year or so for dead Era realms.

Just as it was in '04-'05, 60 WoW is very fan friendly in its simplistic yet charming way so today just about anyone can jump in at any time and enjoy the game if they join a cluster/faction with a few hundred people on it.

The RMT, boosting, GDKP in Era is more hyperbole than anything else. Yes those things can and do happen but you can avoid it altogether and choose your associations so while its a bad look, its not a real big hindrance.

The game is still pretty darn good and there are more than enough people playing it so there’s really no reason to trash it.

The key to ERA I personally think is finding a good guild thats welcoming for new players, and does the content and has your play style, as example don’t join a sweaty guild if you want to be casual, or vice versa, as well as where you will be ok with their guild chat. If you don’t like GDKPS, find a guild that runs a different raid style, don’t rely on pugs for your raiding experience, it will almost always be poor, nobody simply wants to carry some random ungeared player they wont see agin in another week, which is just there to grab every piece of loot that drops.

Finding a guild might take some time, but it’s worth the effort, and it will take active effort on your part to find a good one. Group up with people, if you like them talk to them about their guild, how it does things such as raiding, don’t join guilds which spam out invites, and where you have never talked to someone, ask if you can get an invite if it sounds good, most guilds are super happy with new people, and will be excited to have you, you will also find more people are helpful when they know you will be sticking around.

As for gold, its probably easier to make now then ever, at least on the big servers, on the smaller ones, its more challenging, but it doesn’t have a lot of value. If you try Mankrik or Whitmane, take up gathering skills for both your slots initially, you will make tons of money, to the point you would easily be able to have an epic mount when you get to 60, Here is the thing, you don’t need to buy a single thing, even gear on the AH, you can easily quest or farm everything, however if your “Farming” solution is to buy everything on the AH, then yes everything will seem expensive and you will be poor and will bemoans the state of the economy. Don’t take the fast easy way, work for your stuff.

Personally never bought gold, never needed to buy gold, and actually find it funny that people would need to since gold is so easy to make even starting fresh on older servers, but I am almost always completely self sufficient, almost always ran with guilds for my raids, also while have done the occasional pug to help people out, ultimately whether it be MS/OS or even the occasional GDKP, pugging simply isn’t a good option for raiding typically if you want to have fun and get gear.

That makes no sense. Why wouldn’t they want to do that? That’s super low effort on their part. The hardest part is coming up with new server names.

I guess they didnt want to deal with the never ending cycle of server creation and death while being beholden to subscribers to save everything forever.

They already solved that problem with their implementation of SoM and how they ended that.

It’s very simple. Create fresh server. Go through phases. After final phase has been out for a few months close the servers and give players free transfers to an Era server of their choice. Force re-name if necessary.

They literally have already done this.

If you are interested in a non-gdkp environment, another option is the Faerlina/Benedction/etc. cluster. On Ally side, Istari has 25ish raiders and clears MC, ZG, AQ20, and some world bosses on a weekly basis. Server is pretty quiet on week days during the day but picks up at night when everyone gets off work. The Horde guild on this cluster also has a group presently leveling and doing dungeons.

I’m leveling a Paladin on Mankrik right now and haven’t had any issue getting a group for deadmines, stockades, RFK, BFD, or Gnomer so far.

No issue getting groups for the elite quests in Redridge or Duskwood either.

Its not a question of whether or not they can do it. Of course they could. They don’t want to. They probably have their reasons.

While I would enjoy a fresh server there is the problem that the server would never be fresh enough; basically anytime some one feels like they’re behind the ball they want fresh now days and you could see that on the private servers too.

Im just finishing leveling my 6th 60. No boosts, solo and with groups using the LFG. OP is incorrect.

Agreed. Probably because money. They don’t want to cannibalize SoD so they’ll probably wait until that’s over or nearly dead or some other time where their market research tells them is optimal for profits.
