I don’t know what that has to do with collecting.
And FYI, collecting is playing the game.
I am presently collecting transmog from patterns. So I am in the World, killing mobs for patterns, gathering mats for the patterns and then crafting mog from the pattern.
So I am killing, gathering and crafting. Pretty sure all those activities constitute playing the game. In fact, I think they pretty much constitute the basic game.
Role-Playing
Questing: base game
Questing: end game (ie attunements, campaigns)
Questing: repeat dailies/weeklies (typically for reputation)
Professions: gathering
Professions: crafting
Gold gathering/playing the auction house
Pet Battles
Achievements
Dungeons: normal
Dungeons: heroic
Dungeons: mythic
Dungeons: mythic+
Raid: LFR
Raid: normal
Raid: heroic
Raid: mythic
PvP: open world, duels, skirmishes, ect (apologies to PvP players for poor presentation, I just don’t know enough to further categorize)
And then there are World Events, Expansion features (ie treasure hunting in Draenor) and Timewalking which do not fit neatly into any of these categories.

They are not role-playing on my character either.
I started pet collecting eleven days ago in order to capture a Masked Tanuki for my gnome rogue. Got it last night and was thrilled!
Just because you are jaded and burned out, don’t assume everyone is.
Between Draenor and Legion, Blizzard destroyed the game’s immersiveness, role-play aspect and meandering adventure but I still love the World and collecting gives something fun and satisfying to do in it.
There is plenty to collect in the game without resorting to boosting. Only people with more money than sense would do that.

Because all I keep hearing about is inconvenience of grinding borrowed power and the low drop rates of gear and how it is all gating people from doing end game content like M+, raids, rated PvP.

That’s called an actual reply to your topic. If you create a topic, you should understand that people are going to give feedback and not in the form of your own echo chamber.
If.you didn’t want feedback, then I’d suggest speaking to your friends and guild members about your opinion. They might support you more than a forum full of people with differing opinions.

Wow is still great. MMORPGs in general have declined in popularity. And after the whole… yeah, you know what I’m talking about, with Blizzard, a lot of people left on principal and played other games (FF comes forefront to mind, New World, ect). Many of those people will be back. You watch.

People don’t play the game because it’s not fun. Not because of transmog what kind of arguement is this. If it wasn’t for my friends I would quit but I have to find something to do and that is collecting transmog.
Gonna have to press X to doubt that you find that funny considering you bought these up when it wasn’t even warranted.
I don’t care too much about whether you’re sitting on an alt or not, what you say is more important. Unless were talking about using your experience to say something is bad or good, like M+ or something where your character might be relevant.
And quite frankly on this sort of topic, even if you did show up on your retail main to this, it wouldn’t magically make any of things you said of WoW only being “boosting and dressup” anymore correct. I mean it’s still wrong. Infact, it would make you look worse if you did that because it would look like you knowingly lied.
