Why?
Yes. Give us tmorph back.
Go back to the ES forums, Thalmor scum.
Another reason, not security related.
Say someone goes and mods the game and then creates a video of it.
What people see is the modded version, not the genuine article. Now, that may not sound so bad. Until someone does something like oh, nude models or even worse, they create skins of real people.
Imagine someone doing something like replacing Sylvanas with Donald Trump.
That could create publicity of the worst sort.
An excellent point.
Imagine the mess Blizzard would be in if say someone replaced a dungeon boss with Donald Trump, then created a video of a group killing said boss.
If someone upstairs saw it, I doubt theyâd be all that pleased. In fact, theyâd probably be having a few âwordsâ with Blizzard over it.
So yeah, thereâs too much potential for abuse. Both security issues as well as creating negative PR. Both are of course Bad Things (tm pending).
Itâs not only the resources Blizzard would have to devote to what is probably only a niche service, but Iâm sure theyâd rather not make it any easier for inappropriate videos to show up all over the internet with modded graphics and sounds. Gaming corporations generally like to maintain integrity over the look and presentation of their games.
The long and short of it is that client-side file editing potentially opens the door for some exploits. Instead of trying to draw a line somewhere regarding whatâs an acceptable file edit and what isnât, it makes perfect sense to just disallow it completely.
Besides, the addon API exists. If Blizzard wants to allow users to change their client or interface in some way, theyâll make it possible through that API instead.
Yep yep. All good points.
@Pelinal take note, these are all good reasons why they donât want you to edit game files.
We know you want your naked night elves and your dummy thicc taurens, but no. Blizz has said no numerous times & has issued bans along with those statements.
If you do it, you deserve to get banned and I hope you do.
Iâd love for us to get mods.
I used to think they were along the lines of UI mods until Blizzard made it very clear that it had the potential for great abuse.
OK wow, way to go super aggressive and abusive there pal. Iâve decided against quoting your abusive and offensive post.
Youâve been presented with several reasonable arguments. Your response is to throw a temper tantrum and call it trolling.
Please go.
just allow players to submit art. If its better, use it for everyone.
they will never allow this. players can replace textures with anything, meaning they could load texture replacements for enemies making them easier to spot, easier to target, etc.
âitâs uglyâ is not an excuse to legitimize a vector that can also be used for cheating. get over it. the game is not âthat uglyâ even if you may not like every little thing about itâs graphics.
