There is no way they can break this without breaking a lot more addons that are super important, and will cause a massive amount of backlash against the changes. As for the auto-invite thing, the only way they are shutting that down is by preventing addons from calling that API function at all. Again… I don’t think the anti-LFG folks are going to be satisfied at the outcome of this here.
-" I will walk this ground forever
and stand guard against you name.
I will give all i can offer,
I will shoulder all the blame.
I am sentry to you now,
all your hopes and dreams.
I will hold you to the light,
thats what forever means. "
Good! If they want retail features, they can go play retail. Heaven forbid these people have to do what is required in a classic experience: communicate with people and not be jerks so they don’t get ostracized.
it’s less about the fact that the addon would be broken, and more the fact that the classic team recognizes an addon that bundles up everything that ClassicLFG does into one streamlined tool as a problem. I’m happy knowing that they’re transparent about it and that we’re on the same page with that fact. And, if all they can do is make it more annoying to use for the people who want to use it, then I guess that’ll have to do.
To all I argued against, I formally apologize and concede.
This part intrigues me. You said “significantly limit.” Exactly what parts of the add-on API will be changed, and what are you intending to limit, exactly?
I’m not sure what you could do to break this add-on that wouldn’t break other add-ons that are totally fine.
From this line…
… it sounds like the ability for add-ons to communicate with themselves is what will be removed from the add-on API?
Yet…
… makes it sound like just parsing chat messages and displaying them in a GUI is also a problem, as it recreates the group finder tool.
All I care about is having Atlas for quest tracking, Dominoes for bars and a threat meter. I have other addons I like but those are the most important to me!
-" However, when an add-on goes beyond presenting information or providing aesthetic customization, and attempts to create an interconnected social network that relies on other players also using that same add-on, we are likely to scrutinize it particularly closely. "
Um ok? why did you repost that to me, i read it already, lol, had nothing to do with what I said, if you are going to respond to me, at least respond to me if I asked you a question, which I did in another thread.
If I was an add-on developer I would take this “Blue Post” as a warning. Blizzard clearly and sincerely stated their stance on what they are considering for social mechanics of Classic.
If you try to find some detour to implement group finders to exploit developers’ intentions either in game or on third party applications you have to take the consequences. I wouldn’t dare to use these, as not only the makers of them, also they who uses them will need to face the outcome.
dkp, gdkp, raiderio, worldquest, warcraftlogs, warcraftrealms, wowhead would all like a word sir.
the entire point of guild specific loot council addons is exactly to sequester. those were all sanctioned. please could somebody from blizzard be consistent in their stance?
using something they created in the way they intended to play the game they intended us to play in the way they intended us to play it is against the spirit of social mechanics? nice coolade
this addon came from existing addon apis from vanilla. Suu didn’t invent a genie here. it was already out of the bottle
