I’m not referring to TBC Classic. I’m referring to normal vanilla Classic WoW.
Classic WoW has been on death’s door since TBC Classic was released. I logged in a few times and it was pretty dead. How do you improve those numbers? Make it free to play.
It increases the population
It allows some WoW players who have recently quit to stay connected
It fosters a favorable sentiment towards Blizzard, which in turn may compel those who don’t subscribe to re-subscribe
It may also cause some who decide to go the “free route” to become nostalgic about retail, and then re-subscribe
I know, and I may or may not have partaken in one or many of what you are referring to, but I have been more on their side “retro-wise” since Classic was released.
Nothing, but the only way they’re going to go backwards is to remove the forward progress. Because the push for classic servers was never about vanilla alone it was about the whole experience through Wrath.
I find how dead vanilla classic servers are to be a testament to how little the playerbase actually cared about classic WoW. Those rose tinted glasses really were quite deceptive.
All of your reason basically circle around the concept of Classic “expansion” being dead. Many previous expansion of retail are also dead, even with Chronie time. If Blizzard made Classic free, people would feel they were entitled to have previous retail expansions free to play. I extremely doubt Blizzard will go near that Pandora’s Box.
I can see how the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” mentality can creep up in certain cases with the playerbase, but if Blizzard states “Only Classic WoW will ever be free,” some will accept that. Some never will.
You mean like how when blizzard announced that classic WoW will require an active subscription some accepted it and some never will? Believe it or not you are far from the first person to demand they make classic free. They already said no, and the answer is still no.
In what way?
The community used the argument that “we want classic wow back, it will bring back a bunch of old veteran players, trust us.” As the catalyst to get Blizzard to actually rerelease classic wow. Many nostalgia players insisted that classic must be F2P. Blizzard rejected the F2P suggestions because of the fact that if classic WoW really was something the community really wanted back, and if it really will bring back old players, then those players will be willing to pay for it. To make it F2P basically just says, “The community didn’t actually want this, we may as well shut it down”
Ooooo…So secretive! I love you you talk about private scene as dealing in some criminal activity.
I’ve played on private servers for years before coming to retail.
Except you didn’t account for a fact that Blizz would lose millions of $$$. Not sure how it’s a win for them.
I am not saying that 15/month is the appropriate amount, but it certainly serves as a certain barrier. Last thing I’d want is for all Fortnite kids to come here. You think WOW is bad now, you know nothin Hoghouse
Honestly this isn’t a bad idea. Making it F2P would bring a lot of new players in and introduce them to WoW which will inevitably lead to them spending money to switch to retail once they realize classic is terrible.
